Cool deal. Right now that's the most intimidating part for me. I really know nothing about bike's except for I'm sure the Mongoose sitting in my Granddaddy's garage isn't going to cut it.

I know very little to nothing as well. We have a decent biking contingency in town with organized rides a couple times a week, so I need to join in on the fun. One guy at the Louisville Ironman did the bike on a single speed BMX. That is hard core. I would not attempt that on my old Huffy.

I ran 6 miles Monday for the the first time in my life. I'm going to try for 8 tommorow. Half-marathon here I come.

Never got into running with groups of people I enjoy Running alone in the middle of nowhere normally.

I used to be the same until I got in to longer distance running. Having a support team pushes you that extra mile. Pun intended.

My knees and ankles can't take the pounding of running, I have recently purchased an elliptical. I know it's not as good as running but it is so much better on my body.

Ellipticals can be very effective if you push up the resistance and get after it. People tend to just glide around often times and not get much out of one.

Yeah if you turn it up enough they are pretty hard.

Shew any good tips for the three days prior to a half marathon Bugatti? Before my first one I jogged two days before just to keep the legs fresh and I felt like on race day my legs weren't fresh. Second one the weather was a huge factor since it rained the entire race and was cold but I think not doing much the few days before the race didn't help. Im debating some fun agility or goofy things at the gym. Suggestions?

Hammertime, definately rock the eliptical. I have told a couple family friends who have bad knees or ankles that I prefer this equipment if you just want to get some exercise. Like Bugatti said, its all in how you use it. Give some resistance and work yourself. Bikes work as well and if you have access to an indoor pool I hear it might be one of the best complete workouts for ya. Sadly, I've never been much for swimming, lord knows it would help my knees.

Work yourself in to a sweat whether it be a slow jog over about a 15 minute span, then spend about 20-30 minutes stretching. Nothing you do now is going to improve your half-marathon. Be sure to stay fresh and start taking in a little more than average good carbs.

I am doing 19 Saturday morning and I have a quick routine I normally do on the Thursday before long runs. Either that or Yoga. Or, just take off.

Swimming is as intense of a workout as you can get. I can log a mile in a pool and I am spent the rest of the day. If you ever decide to swim, it is worth taking a few lessons to make sure you are somewhat doing it correctly. If not you will just be helpless in the water.

If you can afford one a Concept 2 Rowing machine is just about the best thing you can use. But they are pretty pricing.

That has been a worry of mine. I can freestyle no doubt if I want to get from point A to point B just messing around. However, doing a freestyle or any other form of swimming properly for cardio, endurance, and strengthening is something entirely different and I'm not sure how good I'd be swimming laps. Someday I'll build up the courage to just do a few laps at my gym.

Hahaha, you mean there isn't some special secret in the last three days that pushes you past the hump??!! Yeah, that is what I'm thinking. My problem is I get antsy sometimes in the days prior to the race and want to run 5ks and 10k distances but still at my normal pace and then I manage to wear myself out too much. I think i'm gonna get a light workout the next two days and just maintain the good carb load. I'm hoping for beautiful weather to match the gorgeous scenery around Midway this sunday.

Does anyone take ibuprofen before a run and if so does it help with soreness, etc. I ran 8 miles yesterday and I was in pain for a good most of it.
