June 10, 201016 yr I can't decide whether all this is going to make me more or less interested in college football. Probably less, but I'm hoping for the best. Big 12, we hardly knew ye.
June 10, 201016 yr Why USF? A lower level school in a state the SEC already is already strong in (especially if the pick up Miami and/or FSU). I'm not sure if VT would go for the SEC academics. What about NC State? Could they be lured to get out from under UNC/Duke/Wake and have a shot to be strong in basketball? It would get the SEC into the NC market even if NC State doesn't bring much to the table football wise. They would own the state of Florida...Also, USF has the potential IMO to be a football juggernaunt if they can offer what the SEC allows them too. I could see VT instead of Clemson, but still think they'd go for Clemson instead. June 10, 201016 yr Obviously travel time for students and fans, missed classes, and regional affiliation is out the window. The almighty dollar has taken over college athletics completely.

It's not like they dominate or even win the Big East let alone a conference with 8-10 Super Heavy-Weights. Maybe it helps their recruiting, but I don't see how it would. What do they have to offer that the Big 3 don't or the other SEC teams like Bama or LSU couldn't offer them? Don't get me wrong I really like USF, but they would be way over their heads in the SEC IMO. I think it would actually set them back.
June 10, 201016 yr One thing fun about this is thinking of the new conference names. The PAC 10 will have to change because not all schools will be on the Pacific. The Big 10 won't be 10 (even though they have been 11 for a while). The SEC won't just be in the south east if Oklahoma joins. Just something fun to think about through this whole thing.

They would definitely get more national exposure as a result of being in the SEC, and I think that could play to their advantage in recruiting. It would be a rough first couple of years but I think they would do good.

June 11, 201016 yr I was told that the Big East brass met with officials from Kansas today... I don't believe the Big East really wants Kansas and I don't think Kansas really wants the Big East, but sometimes you have to make the best move possible and this ultimately might be the best move possible for both parties. GT, any word on whether Kansas State comes as a package deal?
