June 2, 201016 yr So they tried again today but a saw blade being used to cut the pipe became stuck. Apparently, the Professor overestimated the durability of his shark's tooth saw. He tried using the same saw that they used when the typhoon washed the underground phone cables ashore for a brief time but to no avail. In other news, BP is considering hiring Bruce Willis, Will Patton, Ben Affleck, Michael Clarke Duncan, and Steve Buschemi to fix the leak. Forget those wimps. Send in Norris!
June 3, 201016 yr I can understand Katrina being a greater surprise, but surely there are people who run the worst case scenarios of the oil rig disaster all the time. How does no one not address this scenario.? As to fault, I lay alot more at the company that was cited prior to this event and never thought out this possibility ahead of time. I am not talking about the company but rather the government. Company absolutely should be held accountable. I am not sure that you can hold Obama's government accountable up to a point. No way, he should be held accountable, as I understand it now, for the leak. Or even what is being tried to limit it. The government does not have the resources nor should it, to handle something of this scope.

June 5, 201016 yr Why did Obama and the EPA not allow them to burn the oil as it came up? The use of massive dispersant caused it not to be able to be burned, and was the LAST line of defense if burning did not help. Obama and the EPA said no burning.

June 16, 201016 yr The majority of the blame should fall on the E.P.A. for forcing oil companies into deeper waters farther off shore.. If the well had been in 100 feet of water instead of a mile deep the leak would have been stopped very quickly with minimal damage....

Without the EPA, the oil companies would be drilling wherever they want without regard to anything except profit. Is the EPA responsible for the 760 egregious safety violations that BP has been sited for in the past year?

The E.P.A. didn't force BP to do anything and they sure the hell aren't the ones that drilled the well with no way to stop a spill if something like this happened.
June 16, 201016 yr Why would the oil companies drill in deep water when there are viable resources closer to shore.. Less expensive and safer.. Not condoning BP's lax safety but they were forced into deeper water..
