Random question. If you go in to vote, but select no candidates at all, I assume your vote is still registered is it not? I do not vote in any race I do not feel I know any of the candidates' positions. For example, our local Constable race, I had never heard of either of the guys so I did not vote. Maybe it is my own fault for not trying to research the candidates but they made 0 effort in promoting themselves.

I would assume it is but don't know that for sure. And I agree, if I don't feel like I'm making an informed decision I don't usually vote for that race.

This is off the subject a little but I wouldn't vote for constable if my dad were running. In my opinion it's a position that should be done away with.

I will perfectly honest. I have no idea of the role of our constable.

Kentucky

In Kentucky, constables are elected from each magistrate district in the state. There are between three and eight magistrate districts in each county. Under Section 106 of the Kentucky Constitution, constables have the same countywide jurisdiction as the county sheriff.[45]

Prior to the 1970s, the main function of the constables was to provide court service and security to the Justice of the Peace courts. However, since these have been eliminated by judicial reform, the office of constable now has few real functions. Constables still have the power of arrest and to execute warrants, subpoenas, summonses and other court documents, and are required to execute any court process given to them. On the approval of the Fiscal Court (the legislature of the county) they may equip their vehicles with oscillating blue lights and sirens.[45]

Most constables in Kentucky are not paid a salary, but are paid fees for services rendered. However, state law provides for payment of an annual salary of $9,600 to constables in counties with a population of over 250,000; as of the 2000 U.S. Census, this only applies in Louisville Metro/Jefferson County and the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government. The payment has become a point of controversy, since constables in Kentucky have few actual duties.[45] The state has authorized a salary of up to $9,600 a year, but the Louisville Metro Council cut it to $100 a month, plus expenses.

Anyone standing for election as a Constable must be at least 24 years of age, a resident of Kentucky for at least 2 years, and a resident of the county and district for at least a year prior to election.[45] Since Constables are Constitutional peace officers they are exempt from attending the mandatory Department of Criminal Justice Training academy, although they may choose to do so. Sheriffs, Coroners, and Jailers are also exempted law enforcement officers. The Kentucky Constables Association is affiliated with the National Constables Association.

I personally have never understood the point of encouraging people to vote. Those with an interest who are likely to study candidates and make an informed decision will do so, those that don't won't. Reminding them to vote in my mind is encouraging the willingly uninformed to make a willingly uninformed decision.

If you don't vote because you are un-informed, then as someone un-informed you shouldn't be complaining about something you know nothing about.

I have come to terms with this. As an elected candidate, you are sworn to serve the entire population, not just the voting electorate. The fact that people are uninformed, and you KNOW that, must be taken into consideration when you act.

Democracy is "by the people and for the people," not merely "by the registered electorate and for the registered electorate." I know this sounds populist, but any candi9date who does not know that the mob is fickle should not be a candidate.

I encourage others to vote, even if uninformed, because to fail to do so tacitly consents to theri ignorance. I also encourage to vote because as a tag-line I add the names of the candidates that I want them to elect. If you know me, and trust me, and vote based upon my endorsement, then you are not really uninformed.

I like this. I like this a lot. Couldn't agree more.

The ones I have known did one of two things.

1. Pretty much nothing except served the occasional summons so they could get beer money.

2. Were wannabe cops who did it so they could play cop.

So, you get $10 grand a year and can legally put police lights on your car? That's way cool.

In Jefferson Co. and Fayette Co. you CAN be paid $9600 a year. Every where else you are doing it for the cool lights and prestige.

My wife and I walked to the polls pulled all of the "liberal" levers and walked home. Hugging all of the trees and puppies along the way.

:thumb:Very nice!:lol::lol::lol:

They won't let me vote because I'm too stubborn to register as either Democrat or Republican. So this Independent voter will have to wait and vote for whatever is left in November.

I voted this morning! :D

We all voted this morning. Our son, who is a senior and turned 18 this year, participated in his first election. It was quite exciting.
