Football moving to Spring???

Featured Replies

FF = Football Fall

SS = Soccer Spring

Small schools would benefit. This would allow both sports to share some kids. Instead of doing it during the same season.

Why don't we move Christmas to April and Easter to September, then the weather wouldn't be so bad for either holiday.

And why we're at it, lets move dinner to morning and breakfast to evening, I like breakfast foods better and never have time to eat them in the morning.

I don't mean to be offensive Sportsmaniac, but only in Kentucky would this even be brought up. Sure KY can put football in the Spring, if we want to be held even lower on the national level than we already are. Football is for the Fall.

It wouldn't impact many kids if this happened, however, Highlands had a young man several years ago that chose to play and star on the football field and he would have been an excellent soccer player as well. This would have served him well.

Who would that have been? haha

I think you could make that argument most every year for a lot of football and soccer teams, no disrespect meant and here is why. In football and soccer, you have to be able to run, and not just run, but to have speed! Well, being able to run helps you in all sports, except bowling, but you probably know where I'm going with this. I'd like like to take a schools best football players (small skilled kids) and play v.s the soccer team and I'm willing to bet if they played 10 times in soccer, the football kids win 5 out of 10. Why? Speed.

Heat is only an issue for a few weeks and if you practice in the morning or later in the evening it is not an issue. However, freezing weather can cause injury too. Havent we also have snow on several occasions in March? Rain is also a much bigger issue in the spring causing fields, which are often dormant in the spring, to be in really bad shape. Fan support would also be down in my opinion. Who would come watch the first 4 games in freezing rain and sloppy weather? BAD idea, and those who suggest it should be flogged and sent to Canada...if the day should come where football is a spring sport, then KY should be punished by not being allowed to play football. Think Texas would think of something like this? I am pretty sure Austin is hotter than the threshold of hell, but I dont think Texas is debating moving football to spring. Thats just Communist in my book!

Wouldn't this just require baseball to have to share with soccer instead of football sharing? And wouldn't you think more kids would play "baseball and soccer" or "baseball and football" rather than "football and soccer?"

Huh?

If the soccer kids played the football kids in football the football kids would kill the soccer kids.

If the football kids played the soccer kids in socccer the soccer kids would kill the football kids.

Both sports take more than just speed, although speed certainly is very important (if not vital) in both sports.

Some people won't be happy until football goes the entire school year, play 24 games a year.:ylsuper:

And the argument would be there are just some kids who love football more than any other sport and why shouldn't they get to play their sport year around just like..... (fill in the name of another sport here).

It must really be a slow time of the year. A basketball zealot makes the suggestion of moving football to the spring and it starts a ridiculous discussion.

I think basketball should start February 15 and the state tourney should be held at the end of May. That way it could run parallel to the NBA playoffs. Discussion? (My suggestion is no more ridiculous than the original question)

I'm with Ram, there's a lot of things we can switch to meet our own preferences. School year should be in summer, no snow days, Christmas in July, oh, sorry merchants already beat us to it.

Maybe Blockbuster? :) I was just throwing something out there. If football is not suppose to be in the spring why do they have spring practice? I even mentioned cutting the basketball season in length to benefit football in the spring. I was just thinking radical ideas. Don't shoot arrows, we are on a discussion board.

I think you'd be surprised. I'm not saying this would be the case, or even close, at places like Trinity, X, LexCath, etc. But for your typical, run of the mill places, this could certainly be the case.

I would not be surprised. The only people who would be surprised are those who think non-soccer playing athletes could compete with kids who play the sport year round. However, I would be interesed in knowing a "run of the mill" place where you think that this would be true.
