Football moving to Spring???

Featured Replies

Some people won't be happy until football goes the entire school year, play 24 games a year.:ylsuper:

I am not sure if you are thinking 24 games is good or bad - - - but at least football is a school team sport - with basketball, baseball, and soccer - it is all about the player and what other teams he/she plays on. At least football is a true school sport (I am not aware of any teams outside school) and hopefully won't go the route the other sports have.

I like the kids that participate in as many school activites as they can - not only athletics. I feel the same about rushing kids to get college credits in high school - sounds great on the surface, but think of the experiences they are sacrificing. Think of the classes they could take in high school that might expose them to new opportunites.

Wouldn't this just require baseball to have to share with soccer instead of football sharing? And wouldn't you think more kids would play "baseball and soccer" or "baseball and football" rather than "football and soccer?"

I understand your agrument. I think it would be easier to share baseball and soccer kids.

And is exactly why football is given a window in the off season (Spring) to practice. People whine about baseball and basketball not getting the same opportunity, but the reality is: they don't need it. The players play those sports all year long, in outside leagues. Football players have no such opportunity.

Good Point Ram. Never thought about that.

Golf?

I remember when that was a spring sport. Football is in the fall and shouldn't be any time else.

He said "mens" sport. :clap::D:clap:

Soccer is definatly a mens sport. I'd say more but this is a football thread. Anyway, Even the thought of having football in the spring other than "Spring Ball" is a terrible idea. It's not just a tradition, man it's life. There is something special about football season in the fall you know. It gives the start of the school year a lot more excitment. There is something special about a season that starts out scorching hot and ends freezing cold. Another thing, Spring football would get in the way of watching my other favorite sport, baseball. Deciding between what to watch would be like chosing favorites between my children(if I had any). Football is what fall is all about. Enough said.

I was reading Mike Fields article today and it got me thinking about all sports in Kentucky. Football currently has Spring practice and their season in the Fall. I know that with heat related issues growing, could it ever be considered to move Football to the Spring. You could start practice in March and play games in April, May and have playoffs in June. The temperatures would be much better, this would also allow baseball to move to the Fall and they could practice in July and play in August and September, have playoffs and be done by October 15th for basketball. Just a thought? What would be the Pros and Cons of a move like this?? Other than tradition of course!

I seen your plan if you through out tradition, here is mine if you just think out side the box a little. My idea is basketball and wrestling can start December 15th can end in May. Hey Pro-basketball still playing why not high school basketball. Spring Practice in the Middle of May great weather for football. Then Baseball gets May, June, and July. Just a great time of the year for baseball. Football and Soccer should get August to December.
