HT isn't the one that doesn't like Masset. That is UKMF.

Maybe I should post these stats each week as well, I'm sure the Reds have moved up at least one spot since I last looked. :dancingpa

I love Masset and think he is going to be just fine, not as good a last year but he will be solid. Just a rough start to the year.

As bad as the Reds have looked at times, the one thing that does not worry me is their starting pitching. It was easily their biggest strength coming into the season, and I still feel that way.

 

The bullpen, on the other hand, may need some help. Stinkin' Lincoln isn't going to last long.

 

I can live with Masset & Cordero in the 8th & 9th. Rhodes has been brilliant. Herrera is okay as a specialist. Owings is a solid long relief guy. But they will need to bring somebody else up relatively shortly. Ondrusek didn't cut it. Burton hasn't pitched all year.

 

Off the top of my head, I think the most logical choices are Maloney, Wood, or (gulp) Chapman. The problem is, one of those guys (or Volquez) will likely be starting for Leake around August...

I can give credit when it's deserved, and Masset pitched well last night. I look for him to return to his crappy ways his next outing though.

Coco has never been very good when he enters the game when it is not a save situation. I had fun at the yard tonight. Beautiful weather.

I maybe would have gone with Rhodes, but I think CoCo is a good choice there, although he does have a tendency to give up runs in non-save situations.

Phillips cost the Reds a run earlier in the game on that long double. He loafed the whole time to 2nd. Could have easily been at 3rd if he was running hard with 1 out. Next batter Votto a Fly ball to the warning track. He has to get over this stuff if he wants to be a leader of this club. I'm getting really tired of seeing him do that.

That is what all the teams with a legitimate closer do at home. You can't save a game after the 9th at home.

Cueto has struggled versus the Mets, going 0-2 with a 9.60 ERA in three starts. In his only outing against them last season, he was reached for four runs and nine hits in five innings of a 4-0 loss.

 

Jonathon Niese (1-1, 3.10) has only one win to show for three consecutive solid starts in which he has limited opponents to two earned runs in 18 innings while striking out 20.

He is what he is. We've seen enough of this to know it isn't going to change with him. Too bad, has the potential to ba an All Star 2nd baseman, but may never reach that potential due to his laziness. Look for him to be gone sooner than later.

I think you're being a little hard on Phillips. I get frustrated with him as well, but the guy has been producing lately.

 

He's hit .357 over the last week, and since he has moved to the #2 spot (8 games), he's hit .313 with 2 doubles, 1 HR, 3 BB & 3K. He's only stolen 1 base, but his OBP% is .371.
