Exactly... The left doesn't mind government intrusion in most every aspect of their lives... Why is this any different than the Feds profiling you if you don't buy health insurance?? :thumb:

 

There is a difference because it is based mostly on race.

 

It is very much a very thin and fine line.

So I'm irresponsible for not having my ID on me if I go for a run outside? I'd say I've been asked to produce my ID by the authorities about 3 times in my entire life and they were all because I was doing something that I probably shouldn't have been doing in the first place. If I'm of Hispanic descent and I'm outside of my home in Arizona I shouldn't have to live in fear of the police if I don't happen to have my ID on me 24 hours a day.

 

Not irresponsible in that circumstance, because say you are asked for ID, you are within a reasonable distance of where your ID is. Say you run across the street in and an officer sees you outisde of a crosswalk. He's going to ask for ID. If he feels it's warranted, he will follow you to your house to get it. If you can't do that, then I'd say next step. The people that will have the problem with this law are the ones that do not have IDs and do not belong in this country! I really get a kick out of all the people who don't like the law. But I'm not hearing any realistic alternatives from these people. If I don't like something and am going to complain, I will have an alternative to back it up.

It's obvious that most of you that are not in favor of this law have very little confidence in law officials. I am one that does have confidence in the biggest majority of them. To think some kind of law would be perfectly executed by every officer is silly.

 

I just don't see police officers running through the streets grabbing every non-white person they see so they can determine if they are legal or not. Profiling , having hunches and making mistakes is something EVERY human does.

Where do you get that we don't have confidence in law enforcement officials? If anything, this just makes things worse for them. Their job is hard enough as it is. Now, Arizona is asking them to figure out who "looks illegal". In Arizona, that's going to be Hispanic most of the time. Everyone's worried about the illegal Hispanic looking individuals, but no one is at all worried about the rights of legal Hispanic individuals?

 

The excuse that "everyone profiles" doesn't fly because if you profile me, you can't do anything about it. Law enforcement officials are going to be put in a position, that to do their job the way they're being asked, they run a significant risk of violating the rights of legal citizens. On the flip side, if they're too cautious, their superiors could accuse them of not doing their jobs well.

 

This is a Catch-22 situation for them.

The cops pretty much know where and how to find the illegals.. They know the neighborhoods and areas they live and gather.. Give them a chance.. I'm sure they will do a good job and not step on too many toes... Remember if you are legal there is nothing to worry about.. So you have to show an ID.. Big deal.. It won't be as bad as daily airport security.. The stuff you have to do to fly is way more invasive than this law..

I don't think many of us who question this law have issues with illegals being jailed or removed from the country. I don't.

 

However, the country is not based on the concept of proving you're innocent without the authorities having any reason to show cause. How in the world does a police officer know who is showing cause? The police are being put into a tough spot.

I'd like to know what the percentage of illegals in Arizona are Hispanic. If the percentage is high, I don't see how officers can not profile (human nature). If in fact the percentage is VERY high then you could argue that a whole lot of hispanics could be suspected of being illegal based on the fact they are hispanic. Does that give officers the right to question them all on nothing more than a whim? No. Does it give them the right to suspect Hispanics, or ask more Hispanics for ID? Maybe. Is it touchy? Yes.

I would assume they would be arrested just like any other criminal would be, as should happen every place in the country IMVHO. Maybe they'll get sent to Sherrif Joe's "camp".

Well, what do you think should happen? I would think deportation is what should happen once they're proved to be illegal.

I know, that's a crazy notion, instead I assume some would say they should be entitled to free health care, food stamps and all other social perks.
