Depends on what costs do. Businesses don't have to provide it now but do so for competitive reasons. Why would that change?

My company paid $12,077.00 last year on my behalf for heatlh insurance (this figure includes dental and vision ). This is approximatley 75% of the cost as I paid $4,0004 for afamily of four. If what I read regarding the penalty for not providing heatlh care is $2,000 per employee, than my company would be better off to drop the insurance plan and pay the government fine.

I kind of thought everyone knew this was going to happen when this idea was thrown out. I know I did. Of course almost everyone will end up in the government plan(except the government). That's why it's their plan. By the time most employers get rid of their plans it will be illegal not to be in the government plan. It's just like connect the dots.

If that happens the quantity of care may go up but the quality and innovation will go down. True altruism doesn't exist we all do things for some form of recompense(feeling better about ourselves, our faith, monetary, guilt, etc). Everyone goes into the medical industry out of a desire to help but if compensation isn't worth the investment then there will be fewer willing to go into the ridiculous debt required to finish medical school and pharmacy school.

In another thread someone stated the profit margin for the insurance compnies is 4%.

We are a people that help others voluntarily, we do not need the type of government that you propose. A government that tells us when to jump and how high. I believe Americans are far stronger than what you give them credit for. I'm of the belief that Americans are strong, will forge ahead even difficult times. It seems as if there is a belief among some that we are weak and neeed the nanny state to take care of us.

Are the statistics correct that insurance companies make an average of $54 a person that they insure? The pharma companies come out of this smelling like roses. Who wouldn't take a 2% cut to gain 32M more customers? That's where the money is made and will continue being made.
