If that happens the quantity of care may go up but the quality and innovation will go down. True altruism doesn't exist we all do things for some form of recompense(feeling better about ourselves, our faith, monetary, guilt, etc). Everyone goes into the medical industry out of a desire to help but if compensation isn't worth the investment then there will be fewer willing to go into the ridiculous debt required to finish medical school and pharmacy school.

In another thread someone stated the profit margin for the insurance compnies is 4%.

We are a people that help others voluntarily, we do not need the type of government that you propose. A government that tells us when to jump and how high. I believe Americans are far stronger than what you give them credit for. I'm of the belief that Americans are strong, will forge ahead even difficult times. It seems as if there is a belief among some that we are weak and neeed the nanny state to take care of us.

If it is costing a company money they will move to where its cheaper.....helps my argument a lot.

What's the point of being in business if you can't make a profit? Would you go into business to make a loss?

They are playing that one off by providing a tax credit to those which provide health insurance. As the child of parents who are small business owners, it has been my experience that a big chunk of these workers would rather you pay them the extra money than deduct anything from their check.

I don't expect my company to make a profit for the shareholders. Getting paid for my labor is not 'profit' in the sense we are talking about, it is a wage/salary.

Third party payers that are in the healthcare insurance business to make a profit drive up the cost of healthcare to obtain their profit. If we move away from that model in our healthcare insurance, will the costs not go down?

No because injecting the federal government into the equation is a guarantee to increase costs at a greater rate and quantity than if it were run by private enterprise alone.
