Can't disagree. I think Justice will probably win and is deserving, I just think it is NOT correct to say that he had a better year or, even more, is a better player because I don't think that's true(although this could really never be proven either way) for the reasons I stated earlier.

Shooting--Justice is clearly the better shooter IMO

Ball handling--Justice, clear advantage

Passer--Justice, slight advantage

Defender--Sewell, clear advantage, will get you more blocked shots, with height and athleticism can defend almost any position on the floor

Rebounder--Sewell, same as above

Scoring ability in general--Sewell, slightly, he's really hard to stop when he drives to the basket.

 

The problem is we're comparing two different types of players. Justice is a true 1 or 2 guard and Sewell plays more like a 3 or 4. Not saying Pitino is the Guru of all Basketball Gurus, but I"m guessing he's seen both play and was more interested in Justice. The point is POY is not about who would win in a one-one on contest. It doesn't matter if Justice is a "better player" than Sewell or vice versa. It boils down to what player had the most outstanding season.

Second, if you look at the whole season, I think Sewell's was better.

 

You switch their regions and Trinity has a darn good shot of being your state champion(beat Ballard once in LIT) and anybody that follows KY bball has to admit that!

 

And I never said Justice isn't a great player, but he had the advantage of a fortuitous schedule and region and if you don't want to admit that, you aren't being realistic.

The 16th region offical was not a he, so the person you spoke to may have been a bit confused.

It may have something to do with the referee from the 16th region refereeing 2 games in a row. Someone in another thread said that he called almost every foul against Euton and Jackson in the 2 games.

 

 

I saw that but you know what that is just malarkey. They could have called more fouls on both, I was down there watching every game that is so unfair to say about a referee. If they let the kids play people are all over them if they call it tight some people say the are unfair to one school or the other that is just crap.:isurrender:

"Switch their regions"....?? Okay, if Trinity moved their school to Pikeville my guess would be Sewell wouldn't be on the team. Instead, they are located in the largest metropolitan area in Kentucky with no district boundaries, and over 1,300 kids from multiple counties to choose from. Shelby Valley has probably less than 300 boys and you argue Sheby Valley is the "fortutitous" school of the two?

And if we engage in your fiction of magically switching Trinity and Shelby Valley's regions what does it matter that "Trinity would have a darn good shot of being the state champion"? They already had "darn good shot" to be State Champs by playing in Region 7, but Ballard beat them, not just once but twice. I don't follow your logic of how Trinity's chances of winning state get better by playing against inferior competition like Shelby Valley did all year.

Thats a theory I heard. I did not know who any of the refs were watching the game, but its been talked about on another thread.

Nope, I realized as soon as SV won their first game in the state, he had the award!

Based on what I saw this year, I saw each of these kids play more then once and all of them have what it takes to be Mr. Basketball. If anyone of these kids led their team to a State Championship then they would be the favorite for the award.

Justice. He led his team to the ultimate prize and was a stud all season. I am not saying that Sewell wasn't, but who picked SV to win the state when the postseason started? I would vote for Justice and their postseason results and performances would be the tiebreaker for me.

Justice would get my vote.

I'm coming in very late on this one, but after what Elisha Justice did in the state tournament the kid has to be considered the Mr. Basketball. Sure he had a very good supporting cast, but he did it all for his team.

 

Much better than I anticipated and really showed up when it mattered.
