So, I'm getting ready to back my car out of the garage and take the garbage out to the curb before leaving for work. I look down and notice water on the floor of the garage, which has me scratching my head. I briefly recall hearing the sound of water dripping before I opened the garage door and turned the lights on, but didn't give it much thought, as I usually can hear it when my upstairs neighbors run the shower or the washer.

 

This time, of course, it was different. Water is everywhere in my garage, as apparently the upstairs neighbor left home without checking to see if his toilet was still running. I just got most everything moved out onto the driveway to dry out. I'm cautiously optimistic the damage is limited (I did have to take my old recliner out to the curb to be picked up).

 

However, I haven't inspected the records closely, so I don't know how bad off they are. Some of my nicer ones were directly in the line of fire (water), but most of them are also kept in plastic sleeves, so that probably helped a lot. Cautiously optimistic. :scared:

I haven't looked real close, but I did a cursory examination of a couple that seemed to be the most in danger, and they appeared OK, so I think I avoided the worst of it. (Keeping fingers crossed ... )

Had a window AC over the shelf that contains all of my movies, and it wasn't leaning out as well as it should so I had water drip all over them and I didn't even know it for who knows how long... The DVDs were unharmed but many of the outside covers were ruined.

 

I was not a happy camper -- My movie collection is very important to me, and I invested a lot into it.

Which explains the answer to my question: What was your irreplaceable vinyl collection doing in the garage in the first place.

Get over your preoccupancy with your Eagles discography, and start worrying about your ceilling falling in!

I'm a little concerned that your neighbors bed will be in your living room soon. I would start looking into that angle if I were you.
