March 11, 201016 yr Lehr had some great outings last year around August. Maybe he can carry that into this season and earn a spot. I have no reason to back this up, but I think the job is Lehr's to lose.

Throwing to hitters in spring training is a lot different from facing them in the regular season. You end up pitching to a lot of guys that won't be on a big league roster come April as well as veterans that are working on part of their game and would have a different approach in real games. There's no doubt he's got the arm to pitch in the big leagues now but there's no way to know how he'll react mentally. I think its a big risk with a guy this young to throw him into the rotation right off the bat. He might jump right in and do great. He also might have a rough time and get messed up for good. Its gone both ways in the past. He's too good a talent to rush him to the majors--they made a great move by signing him, they should make another good one and let him pitch in the minors for awhile.

They set the Reds over/under at 80.5 last season--and they won 78. They also picked the Red Sox over/under at 94.5--and they won 95.

Harang and Arroyo have to be on their B+ to A game, Bailey has to actually be consistent, Cueto needs to be closer to his first half form than second half, Volquez needs to at least be close to his old self which I'm not convinced he will be this season. Bruce needs to hit for a decent average, Votto can't have another mental meltdown or whatever that was, Stubbs needs to avoid the sophmore slump (ie Bruce), the bullpen needs some level of consistency, and most importantly one or two injuries can set a team like this back to the basement in a hurry. Having rambled off all that, I hope LRCW is right, I would love for it to happen, but that is a lot of stars that need to be aligned.
March 13, 201016 yr I think the Reds will be okay. The question will be at the plate in my opinion can they get good offensive production out of Bruce and Votto, and can other players step up. Can Rolen stay healthy for a whole season? Can Phillips keep it going. What will you get from Stubbs/Dickerson/Gomes/Balentien? A lot of questions but I think a lot of opportunity. I am very excited. I'm with you. I think that they will give it a good run and if anything they should be exciting to watch. :thumb:

Bruce got hurt lasy year so that was part of the problem for him but he did slump big time. Cueto had a long year with playing winter ball last year. He didn't do that this year he won't get tired as the season wears on. Harang and been working on his mechanics and is healthy for the first time in a while. Arroyo is Arroyo you get what you get with him. 10-13 wins. Stubbs is a big question mark I agree. The bullpen is the least of our worries they were one of the best in the MLB last year.
