CatsCatsCats Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Dallas is on an 11 game winning streak and have been dominant since the All-Star break and the trade that brought over Haywood, Butler, and Stevenson. They've played alot of lightweights over the course of this win streak but they also have wins against the Lakers, Magic, and Hawks over the last 11 games. I think I'm buying the Mavs as a legit contender as I think they have the deepest team in the league. Is anyone else drinking the Mark Cuban Kool-Aid?
bigblueinsanity Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 That trade made the Mavs a top 3 team in the West, I'm not suprised at them.
PurplePride92 Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 No. They played even better the year that Dirk won the MVP and they lost in the first round. Regular season means nothing. I still think it's Lakers and Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals.
born2reign Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 I think they are a great team, but can they beat the Lakers? The Mavs have won at least 50 games in the regular season for 9 or 10 years in a row. They have to overcome the tough competition in the playoffs. I think they are better than the Nuggets and will meet the Lakers at some point during the playoffs- can they stop LA (I don't think so)?
NEERFAN Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Hard to get excited about the Mavs, they've been very consistent for the past decade but they've yet to show they have what it takes to win the title.

I still think it's Lakers and Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals. You act like they always choke in the playoffs. They have already proven that they could get through the West and make it to the finals, they have done it before and they have a better team this year than they did that year IMO.

I think the Mavs got robbed in the finals when the Heat beat them. Can't blame it all on officiating, but they couldn't even breathe on Wade without getting a foul called. I'm buying them as a legit contender, especially having Butler as another consistent offensive threat.
CatsCatsCats Posted March 7, 2010 Author Posted March 7, 2010 I don't know why I've bought in to them so quickly. I do think they are more talented than they've ever been. Haywood was obviously the underrated piece in the trade, at least IMO. Butler and Stevenson are nice additions, Kidd is playing as well as he has in the last few years, Dirk is playing lights out. Terry is always dangerous, Beaubois has played well lately, and the Matrix is not his old self but not terrible. I feel like they could win it all.
newarkcatholicfan Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 With the Lakers looking very lost right now I think the Mavs have to be the team to beat in the West.
PurplePride92 Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 With the Lakers looking very lost right now I think the Mavs have to be the team to beat in the West. How do they look lost? They were swept by the Magic and the Bobcats last year and still won it all. I say it all of the time.....regular season means nothing.
Original Rookie Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 With the Lakers looking very lost right now I think the Mavs have to be the team to beat in the West. You can't honestly believe that. The Lakers are the team to beat in the West.
CatsCatsCats Posted March 8, 2010 Author Posted March 8, 2010 The Lakers have to be the team to beat in the West. With that said, I think the Mavericks are their worst possible matchup in the West and I would not be shocked if Big D won.

They have won over 50 games how many years and have 1 Finals appearance to show for it? Call it want you want but when the playoff start the analysts will talk about Dallas' inability to carry their regular season success over into the playoffs.

It was a young Devin Harris at the point instead of Kidd when they went to the finals. They have alot more depth than they've ever had IMO, and I'd have to say Haywood is a major upgrade over Dampier as a starting Center. Not saying they'll beat the Lakers but I think this is the best Mavs team of the Dirk era.
dolamite Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 If it was five years ago, perhaps even three, then hands down it would be the Mavericks. Could you imagine a MVP Dirk, mixed with a five year ago Shawn Marion, Jason Kidd, Jason Terry and Caron Butler? Now don't get me wrong, Marion, Kidd, Terry and Butler can still all play, and Butler still has quite a few good years left in him, but as good as the Mavs are right now you have to think it is now or never. Cuban pulled the trigger to make them a lot better, but they only have a couple years to make a run at a title, I'm sure he's not the only one that knows this, I look for them to come guns a blazing into the playoffs. I think they are for real.
