March 8, 201016 yr I think the Mavs got robbed in the finals when the Heat beat them. Can't blame it all on officiating, but they couldn't even breathe on Wade without getting a foul called. I'm buying them as a legit contender, especially having Butler as another consistent offensive threat. Absolutely they got robbed. The officials completely changed that series. As for this season, I'm not buying the Mavs. They have a very good team, but I don't think they can beat the Lakers (or the Nuggets) in a best-of-seven. The trade to add Haywood and Butler was a nice move though.
March 8, 201016 yr The Mavs are very good. I think they are going to give the Lakers and Nuggets all they can handle in the Playoffs. Dirk is at the peak of his game. Jason Kidd is also having a great season. Add in the trade and this team staying healthy I don't see why they wouldn't be able to beat the Lakers. I'm not saying they will but I think they are for real.
March 8, 201016 yr As a lifelong Celtics fan, it's hard for me to say I'd like for any other team to win it... But if someone else has to, I'd like for it to be the Mavericks. I'd like for Jason Kidd to get a ring before he retires.
March 8, 201016 yr EN Have they had this much talent though? It was a young Devin Harris at the point instead of Kidd when they went to the finals. They have alot more depth than they've ever had IMO, and I'd have to say Haywood is a major upgrade over Dampier as a starting Center. Not saying they'll beat the Lakers but I think this is the best Mavs team of the Dirk era. None of what you say will matter if they can't at least make the NBA Finals because that means they will have beaten the Lakers or the Nuggets in a 7 game series.

I don't think they'll be favored against either but I do think they would have a realistic chance of winning. I think they are possibly the best team in the league from top to bottom but I can understand if people don't want to buy them as a contender in the West because of their history the last decade. :thumb:

Dallas has surpassed Denver as the #1 contender IMO.

Quite honestly, Denver scares me more than any other team. They know how to beat the Lakers and I think they can do it this year. However, if the Lakers get home court advantage neither the Mavs or Nuggets will beat the Lakers in 7 games.

As a Lakers fan, Denver scares me more than the Mavs. I don't think Denver gets by Dallas this year though.

Blaming it on the refs is lame, especially in a 7 game series. The Mavs had no answer for DWade over the last 4 games and it wouldn't have mattered who the refs were.

They made terrible calls that completely changed the series. Had the officiating been remotely fair, Dallas would have gone up 3-0 and finished that series off in the next game or two... Certainly stars get calls, but not like D-Wade got. I've never seen anything like it before or since. I don't care that Dallas lost or that Miami won...I have no strong feelings either way. But, horrible, game-altering officiating is fairly obvious, especially when its done consistently over multiple games. :idunno:

March 14, 201016 yr Author Knicks just beat them by 30 last night. I was getting ready to post that. No J-Terry, but still. I guess we'll just have to see how they finish down the stretch, I may have jinxed them.
