I haven't seen the stats, but if I'm not mistaken, Sizemore was perfect from the field. What a nice dependable unselfish smart player he is. :thumb:

Foster is a player, very impressed with this young man. Hit a couple of big three's, and took care of the bb down the stretch.

 

Foster has been a major plus for Newport this season. Newport was expected to have a great year but Foster has got to be a major factor in their success.

This wasn't too hard to call. The first half wa close due to some great defense and Newport just not getting some easy looks to fall. But that all changed in the 3rd qtr with the play of Foster and Sizemore. I love watching this Newport team when they are clicking.

 

As for CovCath. Same old story. Make this teams shoot from the outside and you will win. Am I correct in saying that they were 1-17 from 3pt range this week?

They both were very important to their team I will give you that. I love the way Sizemore spots up and drains those 3's. He takes care of the ball very well also. I just thought Foster's points in the 4th qtr were critical.The 2 big 3's and the FT's.

This was a very good game, despite what the score might suggest.

 

Back and forth and then Newport hit a few three's to go ahead by 6 and it seemed as if Covcath went in to "panic mode."

 

Key to the game was Newport's defense against Thelen. He never seemed to get going and that was huge, as it forced other Covcath guards to step up. Evans played probably his best game of the year.

 

As much as the other CCH guards stepped up though in key situations, so did the Newport guards. Brandon Sizemore played extremely well and did what you want a point guard to do. Run the offense and score here and there. Demarko Foster was by far the best player on the floor. He did it all at both ends of the floor.

 

BTW, it was a pleasure to meet and sit next to Michael Robinson's father tonight at the scorers' table. Just a great guy and I really enjoyed talking to him throughout the game and after. Good luck to all the Covcath seniors in the future.

 

I cut and pasted your kind words and sent them to Mr. Robinson. Without going in to too much detail, he recently received a bad health diagnosis. He is undergoing chemo, lost all of his hair, etc. etc., yet continues to keep a positive mental attitude. From watching Mr. Robinson's approach to life, you would not know he has so much as a hang nail.

 

The friendship and support shown Mr. Robinson by 9th region basketball (and football) fans, the Cov. Cath. family and, in particular, the Covcathiradio crew, has been great. Best of luck to Newport in today's game. :thumb:

I was just talking to "Theoldguy" here at BOKC about Mr. Robinson.

 

I knew he was battling medical issues, but like you said, you could never tell from his attitude. Just a very positive guy that's a joy to be around and talk with. I wish the best for the Robinson family.
