The obvious stat is 24-0 from three. Want to here some good ones: Wellbrock 2 rebounds, scoring by quarters for Newport - 11, 10, 11, 27 then the incredible one, CovCath goes 7-8 from inside the arc in the 4th quarter and Newport makes 12 free throws in the last 2 minutes of the 4th quarter.

I heard that Thelen had 5 assists. I'll assume they were all to Wellbrock who went 7/8 from the field.

 

You won't find many/any 4/5 tandems that pass inside like those two do.

What an event, just a wonderful enviroment and such a positive atmosphere for anyone to attend. I had four generations of my family there and seen former players and old friends that I have'nt seen years. The one thing that caught my attention was the support and the followings these schools have. I was so impressed with CovCath's program from the coaching staff and the sportsmanship of the players to the unbelievable expierience of seeing the student section, that had to be one of the most school spirited and neatest things that I ever seen at any sporting event. Hat's Off to the students and the people that are organizing these "Cov Cath Crazies" Good Luck Both teams in the future!!

This was a very good game, despite what the score might suggest.

 

Back and forth and then Newport hit a few three's to go ahead by 6 and it seemed as if Covcath went in to "panic mode."

 

Key to the game was Newport's defense against Thelen. He never seemed to get going and that was huge, as it forced other Covcath guards to step up. Evans played probably his best game of the year.

 

As much as the other CCH guards stepped up though in key situations, so did the Newport guards. Brandon Sizemore played extremely well and did what you want a point guard to do. Run the offense and score here and there. Demarko Foster was by far the best player on the floor. He did it all at both ends of the floor.

 

BTW, it was a pleasure to meet and sit next to Michael Robinson's father tonight at the scorers' table. Just a great guy and I really enjoyed talking to him throughout the game and after. Good luck to all the Covcath seniors in the future.

Very impressive game by Newport. Very talented group of young men. I thought their lack of depth would be a problem, but that was helped by the 'let'm play' style of officiating by the 16th Region

 

On the CovCath side, very impressive performance by Mr. Evans & Mr. Wellbrock. That is what Senior leadership is all about. Thank you Class of '10 for a great year.

 

 

 

 

BTW, the only really 'bad' call IMO, was the blatant walk by by #14 at the top of the key in the third (I believe). It happened right in front of the grey haired ref.

 

Other than that, I liked the officiating. It was very consistant and seemed fair. I also liked how every team seemed to adjust to the style quickly.

 

 

 

Newports #23 gets very little publicity on this team but he is rock solid
