Holmes 59 Dixie Heights 39

Featured Replies

Holmes has their tournament team rolling. Want to see their 3 point shooting do it again ... well, that is three games in a row now - Beechwood, CCH and Dixie. They didn't have any dunks against Beechwood either but I think they are much more focused on the prize than dunks. The Holmes defense was on display again totally shutting down Hatton and company. Henley has his formula working - Herndon is now filling the Riley point guard role, the big three are in full gear, and the bench players are all producing when they get time. Get on out to the BOK and watch perhaps the greatest team in region 9 history march on. You are going to want to say you saw these guys.

Can't really argue that point. If you can, bring it up.

I think he's done alot better job this year and has showed alot of maturity, he played very calm and under control tonight. He missed some shots but, the whole Dixie team just looked off tonight. The elbows and stuff is just his competive side and his drive to win. Pittman seems alot more thugesh than Pike, so lets not single out one player. I think he's a tremendous athlete and has a very bright future

Throwing an elbow out of frustration is not showing any competitive nature and drive to win. It's a cheap play. I am sure the kid is competitor. But lets not make excuses for an inexcusable play.

If you want to be a competitor then go out and make a defensive stop. I think Pike will be a very nice player by the time he is a senior but he is going to have to learn to control his emotion. Like John Wooden would say "Emotion is your Enemy"

Unfortunately when you talk to a lot of people around the area you keep coming up with the same discussion about the dirty tactics of some of the players on this team. Sounds to me like there may be some bad influence on the end of the bench.

That is interesting you make that comment considering Holmes has that same reputation. I guess somehow those dirty tatics that certain Holmes players use aren't a point of discussion because of their winning season?

If they win the state championship this season they will be, but SK did win the sweet sixteen championship also, so at the moment they are one of the greatest teams in Ninth Region History.

The CovCath team of 67, 68, 69, 70, and 71 sans for a last second shot by Earlington HS in the Championship game, would also be one of the greatest teams, but.......

Pike had a couple of nice moves to the basket and we all know he is a very nice athlete but he is getting a reputation as being somewhat of a thug. I mean how many games does the kid get called for fouls away from the ball that involve elbows or a push?

Hatton is a very nice player and made some nice buckets tonight. I really like the way he controls his body when he drives and shoots. He was just off target and I saw it in warmups. He was short on everything he put up in warmups and it carried over to the game.

Both of these kids will need to carry the load next year along with the sophomore Stansberry if they want to contend. They play in a weak district so if they can win their District crown next year and get a nice draw in the REgional tournament then then they may be able to advance.

I think Pike having a reputation as being somewhat thugish is stretching it just a little. I do agree his emotions sometimes take hold and you can see that frustration play out on the court. However I dont think that there is one team any of us could name that don't have other players react in a similiar manner. I also believe when you are on the floor playing a team who has multiple players that react with emotion as well, sometimes not always positive, you are going to get some of that back. I would like to see Pike gain some maturity , he has great potential.

Holmes played an excellent game and hope they are able to advance to state. If they play as well as they did against Dixie, in the rest of the tournament, there will be no stopping them.

I am not a Dixie fan or follower and last night was the first time I have seen them play and heard twice last night (from seperate individuals in seperate conversations) this very same thing. Not that it is right or the truth, just what is circulating in some basketball circles.

Newport got the easy side of their draw but they deserved to be there obviously with the convincing win over Ryle. It did stink to have Highlands and NCC have to send someone home and it would have been cool to watch Highlands in this tourney. It is what it is I guess and you just have to hope they get a better draw next year.

Ahhhh!!! Stop it, stop it... Quit bringing it up. I'm still heart broken what if, what if?

I don't have a problem with the blind draw I just can't get over all the bad luck i.e., coach retiring and leaving the boys hanging, new coach, ALL the injuries. And to think a team that had players leave the team is still playing (Boone Co.) Grote and Grubbs would've killed to have been in those boys shoes. NCC blisters the nets during the Districts and couldn't throw it in the ocean last night.

Anyhow congratulations to all the teams that have survived and advanced thus far.

WHAT??? W/ this current group of seniors, I've never heard of dirty play. In fact, opposing coaches speak of their sportsmanship. At the state tournament last year, they made a point of mentioning it.

From what i've seen its not anything major, no excessive elbows, just more banging and knocking guys around. I think this Kid is going to be special the next to years, Along with Hatton and Stansberry.

KUDOS to Holmes on the W.

How did SK fare in the years around their title? State tourney appearances? Regional titles?
