I challenge you to show me an example of this with this bunch of Holmes kids. They as a whole are probably the finest bunch of kids that have ever worn the Holmes jerseys. They have a couple of kids that at times may play out of the norm but coach Henley certainly does not condone dirty play and by no means does he teach it.

If they win the state championship this season they will be, but SK did win the sweet sixteen championship also, so at the moment they are one of the greatest teams in Ninth Region History.

 

The CovCath team of 67, 68, 69, 70, and 71 sans for a last second shot by Earlington HS in the Championship game, would also be one of the greatest teams, but.......

As was the 78 Holmes team. Lost twice to a Shelby Co. team that stole their state title.

Pike and Hatton didnt shut anyone down.

Let's suffice it to say that their is no respect thrown toward the end of the Dixie bench. If you go back and look at the thread from February of the top coaches in Northern Ky. there was no mention of the Dixie coach, period. The coaches who have been recognized on this site coach with a great deal of class and integrity. Most of them neither condone rough play, (cutting a players legs out on a shot, grabbing a player on a drive to the basket, hard fouls 30 feet from the basket, etc.) or teach it! There is no place in high school basketball for those "win at all cost" tactics!!! I have heard this from players, fans and other coaches. If you don't believe it is happening ask around.

IMO, seems like some on here are confusing "swag" with "dirty". There is a difference. Holmes has the swag. They've earned it.

I think he's done alot better job this year and has showed alot of maturity, he played very calm and under control tonight. He missed some shots but, the whole Dixie team just looked off tonight. The elbows and stuff is just his competive side and his drive to win. Pittman seems alot more thugesh than Pike, so lets not single out one player. I think he's a tremendous athlete and has a very bright future

I think both of you are way off on your assessments when it comes to this Holmes bunch. Last year I might agree with you when it comes to Rice or Pittman, but not this year.

 

Holmes players (especially Pittman, J. Johnson, and R. Johnson) have been on the receiving end of some pretty hard fouls this year on dunk attempts but not once have they reacted or retaliated at the other end. Hayes was also undercut pretty hard last night when going up for a rebound which resulted in a foul on Dixie.

 

Sure there's been some jawing here and there but I can guarantee you if you look at all the Holmes threads from this year, you won't find one post of anyone mentioning them playing dirty.

 

These boys let their play on the court do the talking for them. Coach Henley is one of the classiest coaches in NKY and would never condone anything to that nature.

 

I hate to single out KIDS in threads like this but several Dixie players have gotten a reputation for their "rough" play on the court. Look through the Dixie threads and you'll see what I'm talking about. It's not just myself (as a Holmes fan) that has brought this up so I don't consider myself a homer at all by mentioning it.

I don't think it would be respectful to come out and pinpoint which players I am speaking of. I am not taking away Holmes athletic ability by any means, but when we are watching them play we must be watching two different teams. They are a fantastic ball club no doubts there but to indicate that there is no dirty tatics I would disagree. I am not sure what their coaches teach, I am not at their practices as neither are you at Dixies. So I think clearly it wouldn't be fair to place blame of dirty playing necessarily on a coach. However if you read my post you responded to , nowhere did I indicate that Coach Henley taught those tatics. I simply stated that Holmes has that same reputation. I am speaking from what I have heard from other parents from different ball clubs. Obviously we are both entitled to our opinions. I can tell you though that several different basketball players from different schools through out the region have complained about dirty play from a few of the Holmes players and the names are always the same. Again I will state Congrats to Holmes on excellent ball playing.

There will always people out there with an axe to grind. We know who they are. Many of the Dixie players excel in and out of the classroom, are on the honor roll, dean's list etc and are very good kids if you actually knew them.

I define dirty as throwing a punch or elbow to the face, undercutting someone intentionally etc.

 

Hard fouls are part of the game....all teams have those.

This is high school basketball...it's physical. This isn't 1st grade YMCA league ball.

Have you watched a college game lately?

I think you are clearly in the minority. Holmes fans are not the only ones defending the way they carry themselves. Talk the guys who do the CovCath broadcasts and they clearly feel that this Holmes team is a very mature group of kids and no one needs to defend the way they play.

Are you talking about the Holmes player having his legs taken out during the 2nd half on a weakside rebound? If so, that was not a dirty play IMO. The Dixie player went to box the kid out as he jumped to grab the rebound. That was not intential by any means. It's something that happens a lot at all levels. After it happened, the Dixie player stood there apologizing and trying to help the Holmes player up.

I guess we'll have to take into consideration that a guy in Florida is on here acting like he's in the thick of NKY basketball.
