Rondo isn't a scoring PG, and at least IMO to be a successful NCAA PG, you need to be able to shoot and score (ex. Wall and Scheyer). Just my opinion though, which is why I feel like his game is built more for the NBA.

Rondo would have scored 15 a game as a freshman if he played for Cal, Pitino or Wright just to name a few. Tubby slowed his game to a crawl and didn't let him attack the rim in space in the half court or get out and run in the full court...

Tubby also restrained him on defense.

It's frustrating to this day.

While I do agree with your statement for the most part. I still stand by my original post because, at least in my mind, we aren't answering this question on "what ifs...". We are answering by who was better, and I think Wall is hands down the better PG in the NCAA.

Set the single season steal record as a freshman. Not that good? That is laughable!!

I can't seem to remember him being projected as the best PG prospect of his generation or garnering much 1st team AA talk or National Player of the year talk. 8.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.6 steals a game sure does remind me alot of what Wall has done.:idunno:

Rondo was a very, very good PG at Kentucky. Tubby just had him rained in a little too tight.

But he was never at the level of a John Wall. Not even remotely close while he was at UK. Not even close.

Wall wins this hands down, Rondo couldn't throw it in the ocean as a freshman.

Minutes played?

Also, Wall came in from Day 1 & was supposed to be the star & go-to guy. Rondo was not, so the #'s can be a little misleading.

No they're not. Rondo was not a good passer at UK, at least compared to other "elite" college PGs. Rondo could not score at UK. He was athletic and made plays but he was far from a pure PG.

Some guys are confusing the current NBA All-Star Rondo with the one that was very raw and only relied on athleticism at UK.

The one that plays in the NBA -is that his brother?

You're asking a question about who was better as a freshman, right? So what does his NBA career have to do with anything?

You put Rondo around talent and he makes them and himself look like all stars.

I certainly appreciate Rondo as a Cat and a Celt, but there really is no comparison between what Rondo did his frosh year to what Wall has accomplished. Wall as a frosh is far superior to what Rondo was as a frosh.

Dude Rondo at UK and Rondo now in the NBA are two totally different players, but are obviously the same person. I'm sorry you failed to realize that people do improve greatly over time in the NBA. Is that easier to understand now? :idunno:

I love that people think Rondo was no good while he was at UK. He was great, but he was the only one of his class that lived up to his potential, and Tubby's style was teh worst possible fit for Rondo.

Rondo was good at UK, but not better than Wall is... Which is the entire debate.

Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time, but it doesn't mean he was the greatest to ever play the game when he was a freshman.
