Has Bob Knight forgotten more basketball than I know?

Yeah, I think you explained that already.

BTW, it was over before it started, SSF.

Maybe you should close the thread then? :thumb:

Too early for that, somebody might still have a valid point to make.
And avid fan (more than just a fan who watches games) doesn't know jack about basketball compared to Bob Knight. I can't believe you are serious. The whole argument makes me laugh.

I'm glad someone else found the idea as funny as I did.:thumb:

SSF, how would you defend the Bruins of the early to mid 70's, the wildcats of the late 70's, the hoyas of the early 80's, the boilermakers of the late 80's ect.... you discount what he did the last 10 years of his coaching carreer, but because of his age and longevity (I would assume you aren't nearly as old as Knight) I would say he has seen more and forgotten more basketball than you!...

Where do you draw the "I know as much hoops as the Hall Of Fame Coach" line SSF? Rupp? Dean Smith? Wooden? Calhoun? Boehiem? Pitino? Auerbach? Phil Jackson? Just curious...

Wasn't Billy G a high school coach like 4 years before getting the UK job. We all know how that turned out.

Apparently that line is drawn pretty low down on the list. LINK :idunno:

Who knows as much as Coach Knight?

1. Anyone who follows bball

2. especially those who follow it closely

3. me (SSF)

4. anyone else

Who can we rule out that does not know as much as Coach Knight?

1. The casual fan

I can agree with that. :thumb:

I love this thread.

I couldn't figure out which picture fit this thread better.

That one ^ or this one below.

I read a statement in another thread earlier today that I have seen many times involving different people and different subjects.

"...Bob Knight has forgotten more basketball than most of us know..."

Maybe I don't get the full meaning behind this. What about Bob Knight makes him more knowledgeable about basketball over someone who follows basketball very closely, but isn't necessarily a Hall of Fame coach?

Over the casual viewer, I understand. But just because Bob Knight has won 902 games doesn't make him any more knowledgeable about the sport than someone who has won 200 games, or who scouts or plays basketball, does it?

I don't question his knowledge of the game-I just think he is a awful game announcer to listen to.

SSF, you realize that saying an avid sports fan having as much knowledge about basketball is about the equivalent of saying that the biggest fan of ER or House knows as much about the medical field as Dr. James Andrews or another highly skilled Dr. or Surgeon? C'mon man, he's one of the most accomplished experts in his field.

I don't question his knowledge. I also don't think I know more than him.

Obviously, for many that are reading this thread, this isn't comprehensible, but I expected as much.

That said, I think people overvalue what knowledge he actually knows. No where did I say I could out coach or out smart Bob Knight, and if I did, someone can quote it for me.

Apparently some of the posters will put two and two together and end up with five and that's why we are at the point we are.

I am finished with this thread.

I would venture to guess that if any one of us spent time personally discussing the game with Bobby Knight, we would learn something.

I could agree with that as well.

But you all make it out to be rocket science and Knight being a scientist and everyone else being mentally challenged.
