The two we would up hiring have a collective 40 years experience as painters who were making over $20 an hour a year ago. They took the job making $12.

 

People are willing to take whatever they can get at this point. I don't see the 'they don't want to work because they'll make more on unemployment' at all.

 

I'm just wondering if these two had previously "worked for themselves", and thus, may have not paid anything into unemployment, and subsequently didn't have anything to collect. So, in essence the pay cut they were willing to take was a reflection of the painting industry (ie: housing market) as a whole. :idunno:

For what it is worth, if you can't feed your family on the wages, and you come closer to meeting the needs on unemployment it is a no brainer. As people near the end of their benefits, they will be forced to take that job, but they paid into the unemployment pool and should be able to take advantage of it if they lose their jobs.

"Drawing" as a former employee and "paying" as an employer are two very different things. Employers "pay" into the unemployment pool in Kentucky.

Nope, and it's a she. She's married to my nephew and is the worst example of a human being I've ever met.

 

I don't know Obama, I assume that's who you thought it was, so I don't hate him at all. I just dislike his politics.

In reading this thread I find that there are two ways to view the world. One group is revolted that there are good, hard working people in need. The other group is revolted if there are people that take advantage of the system. Guess what. As long as there is a social safety net, whether provided by the government or by private charity, some people will abuse it. If that bothers you more than the thought that there are good hard working people in need, then by all means rail against the social safety net. I would prefer to provide the safety net, do the best we can to eliminate the abuse and not lose any sleep over the rest.

Employee labor pays for the unemployment insurance just as it pays for health insurance, paid vacation, holidays, sick time and any other benefit received.
