Unemployment...

What seemed to be implied was that people would not enter the job market because they make more on unemployment. That is only true if they are trying to enter at a much lower salary rate in a job for which they are overqualified.

That was neither said nor implied. I cited one example but never said that was the rule. I'm sure that a place that is paying $20 an hour doens't have that difficulty but that isn't every job. What about the places that can't pay those kind of wages? When you pay $10, $11, or even $12 an hour and unemployment is $10 an hour or better and you can draw it for years then where is the incentive to get a job?

For what it is worth, if you can't feed your family on the wages, and you come closer to meeting the needs on unemployment it is a no brainer. As people near the end of their benefits, they will be forced to take that job, but they paid into the unemployment pool and should be able to take advantage of it if they lose their jobs.

Wrong, come up here sometime and I'll take you on a tour of a few areas where people just want to sit on their rear and collect unemployment. You'll also notice they're living in Section 8 Housing.

And they are driving 2008 cadillacs, I know RTS, I know. You hate poor people and they are all leeches.

Not poor people. Just the leeches.

There are a lot of hard working poor people, with a lot of pride, out there trying to better their lives.

There are also leeches. There's a difference.

In most cases they didn't pay into an unemployment pool. It's employer funded, at least in KY and Ohio.

Huge difference.

 I've offered to prove it to you, don't know what else I can do. :idunno:

I guess I'm confounded by the premise that I am gleaning from multiple posts over multiple topic.

Where I work, we see 30-50 people come in to apply for a job every day. And everyone who works here sees them, because the HR office is right by the employee entrance. I see all walks from immigrants to obviously unemployed professionals.

We ran an add the other day for a temporary, part-time painter, and stipulated that the job did not include benefits. We had over 100 applicants for that job alone. The two we would up hiring have a collective 40 years experience as painters who were making over $20 an hour a year ago. They took the job making $12.

We get former industry AGM's, and department heads who are applying for jobs as desk clerks.

We see pretty much the same number of applicants a day regardless of whether we have any open positions or not.

People are willing to take whatever they can get at this point. I don't see the 'they don't want to work because they'll make more on unemployment' at all.

 Have to say, I saw this coming.
I just wanted the "that ain't workin" line given the thread topic. :D

Don't think too many make more on unemployment but I know several personally who stayed on unemployment for the extended maximum rather than take a job. I have no doubt that they were working under the table though.

It really depends on their particular circumstances.

Not all people are willing to take a job right now, I'm telling you I know people that won't. They'd rather collect right now because they can make more money that way. They're out there, trust me.

That's right and I was serious. You coming or you just going to sit there and pretend I hate poor people?

It's not just poor people you hate. It's all people.
