Should Selection Committee Be Made Up Of Active ADs and Conference Commissioners

Big topic of debate by Bobby Knight and the Gameday crew today. I agree with Knight on this one, as I think it flaws the system to have the people creating the field by nature having clear financial biases in the room. I also like the idea of retired coaches and the like with a vested interest in the game their entire lives doing the job. What say you???

^Completely agree with this one. However, I don't see the NCAA doing this anytime soon...

Me either which is why I complain about the system right around this time every year... :D

^Anything that is sensible to most people, seems to take years to register in the minds of the NCAA. I'm about ready to scrap the whole system.

NCAA right now is all about the $$$ and it shows it in many ways.

Retired coaches like C.M. Newton are who make up the NIT selection committee, correct? That wouldn't be a bad idea for the NCAA tournament either.

That's correct...

I think a room full of coaches could have some biased oppinions as well as what we have now.

There will be some biases no matter how you do it as long as the human element is involved. I'd prefer those biases weren't related to financial windfalls for the schools and conferences the current members actively represent...

I agree with GT, I also think that there may be some bias with the coaches and ADs, but it won't be as financially related.

While I somewhat agree, I can't help but think of this as a ploy by Bobby Knight to have some kind of power in college basketball. His ego is so large that he believes that no one can select the NCAA tournament like he could.

This is why having a playoff system in football is a waste of time. 65 teams are going to be involved in this playoff and people still complain about who gets in. :D

I just heard a report the other day, that there were only 20 solvent athletic programs in all of division 1 college sports, so we're not talking about money grubbing professional team owners here. Look at the financial mess that UC is in, as report by you, GT. Sorry, but the NCAA has to consider the money.

Personally, I'd like the committee to be made up of psychics. :p

The money is going to be there any way you select the field. My problem is the 10 people in the room having a vested interest in where that money goes. Your point is exactly why I'd prefer people disconnected from schools and conferences in the room (unless UC gets a permanent spot on the committee of course)... :D

Say me! :thumb:

I posted this in another thread but I thought I'd put something in here. I think the best people for the selection committee would be Vegas odds makers by a wide margin. They have more info and it's better than any committee not including them could ever be. What does everyone else think?

No way. Not something the NCAA wants to get involved with.
