Read the book. It shows that humanitarian missions by ordinary people or the government go much further in changing the minds/opinions of people regarding the US that does fighting with their brothers and sisters.

2 things I would like to see: Term limits, and for the love of God, get rid of 2 year terms! As soon as they're elected, they begin campaigning for the next election. Nothing gets done!

Possibly, but not always the case. A few positives from the Clinton administration happened after he moved back toward the center after Congressional dems got drubbed in the mid-term elections. Welfare reform, "The era of big government is over", NAFTA, trade relations with China.

I don't think so. I believe the longer they stay, the more imbedded they become with the special interests and the lobbyist. This is what has to stop. Do what is right for the people and not big money. Flush out the old, and bring in the new. When our constitution was originated, today's environment was not what was intended whatsoever by our founding fathers. Politics in this country are spiraling out of control. Keep a close eye on the Senate in the coming weeks/months. Now that the Rep. have 41 instead of 40, they will make it hell for the Dems. to accomplish anything. Nothing will get done in the Senate, and they could care less about the people.

That very well may be but the same thing applies to the most powerful position in our government so why not to everyone else?

That is a great argument for not ending term limits.

 

But, there are so many that could be better if they felt they only had a finite timeline to accomplish what they've promised their constituents, IMO.

That's a good point but sometimes I wonder if those doing good are becoming a dying breed.

I don't know what hurts worse the Dems quads from standing up clapping so much or the Repubs rears from sitting so much. Somebody needs to tell the Supreme Court it's OK to stand up and clap for the troops too! They don't always have to sit around with going for the stoic look! I'll be honest I have little faith with any of our government!

Obama cries around about the 8 year mess he was left with then lectures on stopping the finger pointing! I think they are both incompetant!

The Supremes don't clap in reverance to the principle (at least) that the Court is to remain neutral in matters of politics and policy. I did see John Roberts clapping for the troops.

 

According to the court watchers at the ABA, the Court has never been roundly criticized for a decision by a sitting President in person at the State of the Union. I felt that it was in poor form.

Perhaps you'd get more comments if you started a thread on that subject. To me, a non moderator, it seems your inquiry is a thread jacking as this thread is about the appropriateness of the President criticizing the Supreme Court during his SOU speech and not about folks getting arrested and detainen unjustly under the PA.

 

But I do understand the attempt by you to move the discussion away from Obama's comments. Perhaps if I was an Obama supporter I'd be trying the same thing.
