January 15, 201016 yr And 68% are over weight, and we wonder why health care is such a huge issue!! Smoking, drinking, not being active AT ALL. Fast food at every corner is anyone else disgusted at what our countries becoming? It's sad, I mean genuinely sad that over half our population is over weight and it's ACCEPTED. Health care is so expensive because nobody seems to want to take care of themselves. As far as health is concerned we are PATHETIC!:ohbrother:
January 15, 201016 yr What you and everyone else wants to eat doesn't matter to me one bit. I like to stay healthy and workout but thats just me. Some people don't choose to for whatever reason. They can eat whatever they want.
January 15, 201016 yr What do they consider obese? According to my BMI I am obese or close to it. I am 5'10" and weigh 200 lbs. My ideal weight is 155 lbs, if I was that weight I would look malnurished and sickly.
January 15, 201016 yr Body Mass Index, IMO, is a terrible way of determining obesity. It does not take into accout muscle mass. Calculating your percent body fat then going from there is much more accurate

January 15, 201016 yr Perhaps this is a timely place to interject some personal vanity: I have lost 15 pounds since last Sunday, a combination of weight watchers and exercise. I feel great. I'm not going to let you calculate my BMI right now.

January 15, 201016 yr There is a lot to be said about a healthy lifestyle. In the case of America, a moderate healthy lifestyle would go a long way to solving many health related issues.

Shorter life, less time for things to go wrong, no medication for all the old folk diseases...
January 15, 201016 yr 34% of American are obese And 68% are over weight, and we wonder why health care is such a huge issue!! Wow, things are really bad. We have more fat people than we have people.
January 16, 201016 yr If people are dying younger because of obesity, smoking and drinking then wouldn't that decrease cost? Shorter life, less time for things to go wrong, no medication for all the old folk diseases... Fewer dollars spent on social security and medicare...maybe obesity and all the fast food chains are part of a conspiracy?

They can eat whatever they want. I get where you are coming from because it's up to people what they do. It does effect everybody though because it drives up healthcare/insurance cost. Diabites is getting really bad. I see it everyday at work. What bothered me the most was when I taught school. Some of the younger kids were just out of control weight wise. Their parents should have been slapped for letting their kids be in that kind of shape at an age where they had no choice. On a different note I noticed my insurance now gives a free health card that is excepted at a lot of the bigger gyms. Does me no good in this rural area right now unless they put the gym here on the plan but it is free to go places like Urban Active. It's a proactive way to save them money + get healthy. I thought it was a great idea!

I thought it was a great idea! That's what really upsets me the most is the cost that it puts on others. I just don't understand that mentality of not caring how one looks and most of all how their weight will likely play a huge role in their future. The gym pass is a great idea, my work has a gym for this very reason.
