I am a graduate of Dunbar (class of 92') I played on the first team in the schools history and was a part of the schools first win. I was a part of the coahing staff from 96'-01'. I enjoyed a number of years of success during my time with Dunbar and have always been very proud to have been a part of the success Coach Meighan had built. I speak for a number of past players and coaches when I say this situation is sickning. I have listened to the debates over and over about this embarrasing situation and have come to several conclusions. 1st The coaches have little power over "their" program being forced to play who they are told when they are told to do so. Parents should NEVER run any sports programs because they are there for 1 reason "little Johnny". If you want to help fine and dandy but you have no decision making skills on the field. 2nd Administration is a laughing stock throughout the state. Coaches talk and let me tell you there are not very many who would really take the job once they find out they have no control.

There are 3 very qualified coaches who applied this time around and did not even get an interview. Why? cause they want someone they can control. SAD!!

What 3 applied that did not even get an interview?

Don Miller was one, who was a former D Coordinator at Dunbar and head coach at Western Hills. Two things must happen before Dunbar can keep a coach.

 

1. Stu Silberman must leave as Superintendent.

 

2. Anthony Ore must leave as Principal.

 

If these two things happen you will see Dunbar turn around. And it will still take some time. Silberman redistricted Lexinton a few years ago which took a lot of kids from Dunbar to Bryan Station when Stations enrollement was dropping. This is a big reason you have seen the climb from Station over the past few years.

Once again, how hard is it to coordinate an offense when you have Hayden? Give him the ball and he scores. Pretty simple.

 

This ranks as one of the most ignorant things I have ever read on here. Last time I checked success didn't magically happen all by itself, it takes coaching and development through a young man's career to be a player. Just because you have athletes doesn't mean you can just hand it off, see Bryan Station circa 2000-2005. Coaches put players in position to be successful and players make plays, next time you want to write something on here put down the crayons and turn off Nickleodeon so you can concentrate.

 

By the way there is a big difference between 6A and 1A, just watch the games. LCA middle backer 175 pounds, Bryan Station MLB 230 pounds, Henry Clay MLB 225 pounds and both are faster than Hayden.

Is the coach you are talking about Curtis Cotton? If so, he definitely deserves a chance to be a head coach. There have been numerous coaches that have gotten a chance and been less qualified.

I wasn't saying good coaches can't coach all levels, they certainly can. Someone referred to 1A & 6A being the same brand of ball which it is clearly not. Coaching is coaching at all levels, heck 1A coaches propably do more with fewer coaches and resources.

Dunbar has in fact hired Bob Lawson, defensive coordinator at Henderson for the past 3 years.

Cool... so if my son could transfer from his 1A school to a 6A school... sit out a year per KHSAA rules... and then play again... he'll be bigger, faster, and stronger? How exactly do the 6A schools accomplish this? Osmosis? Is that legal?

 

What could 6A do for 1A/LCA's 6'5"-290lb Zach West? Could they grow him to 6'10", 350lbs, and get his forty speed down under 4.5?

6A would not change his physical attributes, but by playing against better competition week-in/week-out it would make him a better player. The competition is a little different playing 6A football as opposed to playing Nicholas, Paris, Raceland, Fairview, Berea, etc.
