I can speak for the last two years only and parents were NOT the problem or undermining the coaching staff.

 

True! The last two years problem came from one person and one person only! and He knows it!:ylsuper:

Obviously, Coach Lawson saw something at Dunbar that was good, I am also sure that he has heard about the "bad" stuff.

 

He attended Whitley County High School and was a star running back, collecting many schools records that still stand.

He then attended University of the Cumberlands where he played on the defensive side of the football.

He was a graduate assistant there and had success.

He then went to Pelham High School as a coach and had success there.

He then went to Henderson Co with former UC assistant Clay Clevenger where they rebuilt the Henderson County program.

Success has followed this young coach where ever he has gone. He is a good coach and a better person from all accounts.

 

I think it could be a perfect fit for all invovled. He has no associations in Lexington and there for nobody to answer to, so he does not have to worry about "Little Johnny" and his daddy, he will be free to pick and play the best players. That may be what both sides need.

I have read this a couple of times in this thread and need to point out that this is simply not true. Clay took over a program coming off of it's 3rd Semi-State appearance in 5 years.

I am a graduate of Dunbar (class of 92') I played on the first team in the schools history and was a part of the schools first win. I was a part of the coahing staff from 96'-01'. I enjoyed a number of years of success during my time with Dunbar and have always been very proud to have been a part of the success Coach Meighan had built. I speak for a number of past players and coaches when I say this situation is sickning. I have listened to the debates over and over about this embarrasing situation and have come to several conclusions. 1st The coaches have little power over "their" program being forced to play who they are told when they are told to do so. Parents should NEVER run any sports programs because they are there for 1 reason "little Johnny". If you want to help fine and dandy but you have no decision making skills on the field. 2nd Administration is a laughing stock throughout the state. Coaches talk and let me tell you there are not very many who would really take the job once they find out they have no control.

There are 3 very qualified coaches who applied this time around and did not even get an interview. Why? cause they want someone they can control. SAD!!

 

I would also like to know who the 3 quilified coaches were that didnt get an interview. I also don't see them controling Coach Lawson, from what I know of him.

Time will tell my friend. I hope for his sake and Dunbars he can do things his way and not be forced to do what others think need to be done. I would love to tell you the coaches but I dont not know if their current schools know so it would be wrong of me to put their names out there.

I'm tickled to death for Bobby Joe. He's a heck of a guy, was a heck of a player, and comes from a heck of a family. I'm curious if his brother Brad will be joining him? Brad was a rb/lb at Corbin and lb for UC. He is currently a grad assistant at UC like Bobby Joe was. This good be a good move that Dunbar has made. Best of luck to the Bulldogs. I now have a favorite Lexington school.
