Cool... so if my son could transfer from his 1A school to a 6A school... sit out a year per KHSAA rules... and then play again... he'll be bigger, faster, and stronger? How exactly do the 6A schools accomplish this? Osmosis? Is that legal?

 

What could 6A do for 1A/LCA's 6'5"-290lb Zach West? Could they grow him to 6'10", 350lbs, and get his forty speed down under 4.5?

True about LCA, but what is the population of the greater metro area of Lexington...it has already been proven in the last few years that LCA's rise to prominence hasn't been a clean one!

Guys, some of you are stereotyping all 1A schools, and all 5A and 6A schools. Some 5A and 6A schools are head and shoulders above most 1A schools, but the majority are not. There are quite a few 1A schools around the state that routinely beat 4A, 5A, and 6A teams. Among most of the teams in the state, there is not a difference among the classes. The only place that the difference exists is with the elite teams, and I contend that difference exist because of the program, not because of the class in which they play.

Lawson named head coach at Lexington Dunbar

I wish the new coach and parents at Man O War Blvd nothing but good luck and great things as they will need it - Having been there the last ten years I have a great understanding of how things operate and who is control. What I can say without any doubt is the prior coaching staff did their utmost to move the ball foward and establish accountability and they had very limited talent. As a previous post pointed out, the redistricting has inhibited the availability of talent at PLD. People that beleive there is enormous talent in the PLD district area are very mistaken.

True money pays for alot at a private school that city school athletes can afford ie camps, private instruction.

I wish Bob Lawson and the Dunbar family the best of luck next seaso. Bob Lawson is a legend at Whitley County. Checking into his back ground he did well at Pelham High School in AL who competes in one of the toughest districts in the south, and Henderson has seen posititive improvement defensively under Lawson.

I'm not a "Lexington guy", but it seems like he has many hurdles to overcome...what must he do first in order to begin to have success?

I am a graduate of Dunbar (class of 92') I played on the first team in the schools history and was a part of the schools first win. I was a part of the coahing staff from 96'-01'. I enjoyed a number of years of success during my time with Dunbar and have always been very proud to have been a part of the success Coach Meighan had built. I speak for a number of past players and coaches when I say this situation is sickning. I have listened to the debates over and over about this embarrasing situation and have come to several conclusions. 1st The coaches have little power over "their" program being forced to play who they are told when they are told to do so. Parents should NEVER run any sports programs because they are there for 1 reason "little Johnny". If you want to help fine and dandy but you have no decision making skills on the field. 2nd Administration is a laughing stock throughout the state. Coaches talk and let me tell you there are not very many who would really take the job once they find out they have no control.

There are 3 very qualified coaches who applied this time around and did not even get an interview. Why? cause they want someone they can control. SAD!!

 

If this is true, then Dunbar will never be a winner as long as the parents have control of the program.

:laugh:This is amusing. I won't even get into the reasons or examples they are too numerous and have been discussed ad-nauseum on this site in the past.

Obviously, Coach Lawson saw something at Dunbar that was good, I am also sure that he has heard about the "bad" stuff.

 

He attended Whitley County High School and was a star running back, collecting many schools records that still stand.

He then attended University of the Cumberlands where he played on the defensive side of the football.

He was a graduate assistant there and had success.

He then went to Pelham High School as a coach and had success there.

He then went to Henderson Co with former UC assistant Clay Clevenger where they rebuilt the Henderson County program.

Success has followed this young coach where ever he has gone. He is a good coach and a better person from all accounts.

 

I think it could be a perfect fit for all invovled. He has no associations in Lexington and there for nobody to answer to, so he does not have to worry about "Little Johnny" and his daddy, he will be free to pick and play the best players. That may be what both sides need.
