December 24, 200916 yr Here is a Ryan Mossakowski/Morgan Newton comparison as to who is better at what: Reading defenses - Mossakowski Athleticism - Newton Arm strength - Newton Leadership - tie Running ability - Newton Pocket passing presence - Mossakowski Understanding of game - Mossakowski Catchable ball - Mossakowski Durablility - Newton Accuracy - Mossakowski Experience - Newton (by a landslide) ? Based on what?
December 24, 200916 yr I really hope this isn't true. A healthy Mossakowski is UK's best future at the QB spot with the offense they want to run. I just don't believe Newton will ever be the type of QB that will shine in this offense. Really? I kind of think of him like Woodson. Woodson was more of a pocket guy, but he needed some major work. He really didn't "get" the position until mid-way through his RS-Junior year. Let's give him a chance. The guy has a good arm and good feet, I think he can be alright.
December 24, 200916 yr In theory. Its the big boy's to lose. Probably true, but they promised Mossakowski a shot. As long as it isn't Hartline.
December 24, 200916 yr Great to hear man. I want him to stay. Competition will bring out the best in the 2 young QB's. I don't really want Hartline to win the job, we've seen what he can do and to be honest we can win just as much with Newton from what we've seen IMO. Going on what I've heard, if Moss is healthy he could realistically be the best QB on the roster. ^ I totally agree.
December 24, 200916 yr Probably true, but they promised Mossakowski a shot. As long as it isn't Hartline. Newton would have to fall on his face and throw left-handed for Hartline to get the job. Moss is behind. Its Newton's job.
December 24, 200916 yr I will tell you what I know. Ryan Mossakowski is very much looking forward to spring practice. He will know where he stands when it is over. Ryan very much needs the winter workout program to get stronger and tighten up the muscle group supporting his surgically repaired shoulder. When he reported to camp in August, he was very weak and his arm was even weaker. His arm strength has come a long way since that time. Ryan Mossakowski is one hit on that shoulder from being injured again. His injury, like Sam Bradford's of Oklahoma, takes lots of time to heal if it ever will heal. Here is a Ryan Mossakowski/Morgan Newton comparison as to who is better at what: Reading defenses - Mossakowski Athleticism - Newton Arm strength - Newton Leadership - tie Running ability - Newton Pocket passing presence - Mossakowski Understanding of game - Mossakowski Catchable ball - Mossakowski Durablility - Newton Accuracy - MossakowskiExperience - Newton (by a landslide) Morgan Newton gained a huge advantage in this quarterback competition by getting to start and play in the last seven regular season games this season and the upcoming bowl game. For the offense UK has shown they are determined to run, a healthy Ryan Mossakowski is much more suited. Question is......can he get healthy and stay healthy? I believe that Mossakowski would have been the one to have his redshirt pulled this year had he been healthy. As inaccurate as Newton has been, I'd rather see him at Tight End next year or take his redshirt year. We have to have a QB that is a threat to complete a pass.:idunno:
December 24, 200916 yr I don't see why he'd transfer. Its not like Newton has taken the league by storm and nailed down the job for the rest of his time at UK. He's been no better than Hartline, IMO. The offense still gets virtually all of its production from Cobb and Locke. Moss, if healthy, should get a fair shot to win the starting job. What else can he ask for?

The Cats only had two weapons on offense so there wasn't much help for him. Matthews has yet to catch on (I think he'll be much better next year) and LaRod King (one of my personal favorites) just started playing more towards the end. TE has been a major area of weakness since Tamme graduated. It's easy to knock the guy throwing the passes, but outside of Cobb there really wasn't anyone to catch the ball either way IMO.

They only remember the last two. And he was a redshirt freshman. Newton was thrown to into the fire WAY before Woodson every sniffed the game field. Give whomever the QB is more experience at WR (which I think you nailed that the Cats should have next year) and the passing game will be better. As far as TE, they do graduate quite a few this year and that is one of the primary reasons that Cessna was moving from LB to TE before he blew his knee again. They need to bring in a few more TE recruits or convert somebody over from another position for next year IMHO.

You just have to play it out IMO. My question to those already discounting Newton is what true frosh QB this year looked like a HOF'er? Forcier looked good for a while, but he slowed down near the end of the season and also played in a system that really showcases athletic QB's. Barkley looked good for alot of the season, but he has way more talent on his team than Newton could ever dream of at UK IMO. I'm not saying Newton is the next Woodson, I just don't think it's fair to write off a true frosh QB who led his team to a bowl in the SEC. :thumb:
December 25, 200916 yr Based on pure fact! What would be the source of your "facts"? I didn't get a chance to see Moss play against SEC competiton.
December 25, 200916 yr What would be the source of your "facts"? I didn't get a chance to see Moss play against SEC competiton. It is not necessary to have seen Ryan Mossakowski play against SEC competition to be able to compare his quarterback skill set to Morgan Newton's. Trust me on this one. What I am saying is not just an opinion. If you saw any practice and watch the two go through drills, many of the conclusions are obvious.

That's fine, and you may be 100% correct...but looking good in spring drills doesn't always translate to the same poise, good reads and accuracy when confronted with a SEC caliber defense. That being said, I didn't think Newton was very accurate even when he wasn't pressured so it wouldn't surprise me if Moss has him beat in that category.
