I think that the existence of referees is causing some of us to confuse the meaning of "fixed" versus "human." Human beings are inherently biased- each one of us in this thread has our own point of view that we are trying to promote. However, that doesn't mean that this conversation has been "fixed" by some conspiracy from theguru and the moderators.

 

If you want to argue that the refs are overly biased towards superstars, that's another conversation. But I don't see any evidence that the NBA is fixed.

I have thought this for a long time. I really think alot of what Tim Donaghy says is the truth.

He may have been telling some truths, but there was an article that came out shortly after that destroyed what he said. I'll look for the link, but he was wrong about a lot of his general points about refs/players/coaches covering in games they were together.

 

As far as this game goes. The walk took place before the charge and you could tell by when the whistle blew that was probably going to be the call. The thing that bothered me the most is the whistle or whistles blew then they refs all looked at each other before anyone attempted to make a call. Why blow the whistle if you have nothing to call?

This is weird that you made this thread. I was just talking about Tim Donaghy's excerpt from his book last night with some friends and all that was happening in the NBA and that I believe a lot of it. It really is ridiculous all that's being done.

There are so many penalties on virtually every play in the NFL that the referee has a lot of control.

 

I think a home plate umpire has the most control over anyone.

The mafia is in deep with all major sports and if you dont believe that you are very naive.

 

Watch a college hoops game and then watch an NBA game. You do not see the same effort in both. There is a reason behind that. All NBA games are generally close until the 4th period and then the game takes meaning and its all dependant on where the money lies.

 

If I were a betting man I would stay the heck away from the NBA.

 

I think you're right on this one. Although, as a betting man, I love to bet on the NBA. Vegas is remarkably good at making the spread. And "remarkably good" means exactly right, almost everytime. I don't think it's a coincidence.
