I wondered aloud earlier about whether that had something to do with it. From comments by Scott County and Clark County people, as well as some from Madison Central, it really seemed like a huge oversight that ultimately cost the team at least one and maybe two games this season. And it might be the fault of the AD, but the football coach has to know what his schedule is going to look like. That was a huge negative for the young men on the roster.

 

I did notice that Madison Central posted openings for two games next season on the coaches email listserv earlier today. Obviously hoping to nip that in the bud early this time around.

Shame that this happened. Turner has had some great years at MC. I wish him the best. At 51-30, it seemed to be a job well done except for this season. As for 8 games scheduled, shame on the AD. MC is a team that has been willing to play almost anyone in the state. I dont know their history vs Louisville schools, but they have been willing to play teams like Highlands and all the Lex schools. Looking at KHSAA, former coach Paul raines did a similar job as Turner, going 46-23, if my math is correct. Before Raines, Bill Cronin (georgetown college's head coach) did a nice job getting this program on the map. I believe he had a 12-2 season there and lost in the semis. There is a post above that claimed Madison has underachieved in the playoffs. Maybe fans of MC need to realize that they are a pretty good program, just not a great one. Since Bill Cronin took over, they really have only had one poor season. and if Cronin, a coach who has won numerous national championships at the college level, couldnt win the big one at MC, maybe its just not in the making down there. Best of luck to Coach Turner - something good will come your way !!

Madison Central has never won a region title in the school's history.

According the KHSAA site, they have played in a 13th game 3 times since 1990. 9-4 in 1991, 11-2 in 2004 and 11-2 2005.

How many Seniors did MC lose this year and what do they have coming back? Should be some intrest about this job.

I would say there will be a lot of interest in this job. Richmond is a nice place and Madison County pays well.

According to today's Richmond Register the speculation is that Madison Central officials were very interested in Jim McKee of Scott County.

RICHMOND — It may not be known for some time who will replace Kenny Turner as the head football coach at Madison Central High School, but the search has already begun.

 

“We are going to advertise (the opening) and see where it goes from there,” Central athletic director Gary Ford said on Wednesday.

 

Turner was fired on Monday after seven seasons as head coach at Central. The Richmond native had a 51-30 record during his tenure, including two trips to the regional championship game (2003, 2004). He also coached 22 student-athletes who signed college scholarships, including Paul Warford, Larry Warford, Ryan Barnes and Keshawn Simpson.

I couldn't imagine McKee would leave Scott County. He is the AD and his wife works there. Just couldn't see the positives outweighing the negatives for him.

Johnny Poynter lives in Richmond, he would be a good candidate.
