Dixon was an assistant at MC in 2001, but I would be shocked if he left Hazard. I hear the search has begun already as they want to have a coach by the first of the year...

I heard that they had 70+ kids today to start the winter weight program. Sounds like they are really headed in the right direction.

Heard same thing and this is good because I heard their freshmen didn't lift weights at all last year.

I'm pretty sure it's one of the freshman coaches that will probably be asked to stay around.

I wouldn't count on any coaches being asked to stay around unless they have some college coaching experience. This has been the problem from what I understand.

Why would they need college coaching experience to coach high school? That does not really make sense.

Yeah, I'm going to have to agree with footballhd here. What would that have to do with anything? I'm sure Coach Turner knew his system, he had ran it for quite some time. so I really don't follow the college experience idea.

Thanks Coach Hard. I dont get agreed with much. The post didnt even say that the new Head Coach would have to have college exp. It said the assistants would if they would be asked to stay around. Just didnt make since to me.

Correct, the post doesn't say that college coaching experience necessary but it would be an asset for those young athletes. Just saying that coaches with college experience (whether coaching or playing) know how to market their athletes and know what it takes to get them to the next level provided they have the potential.

They might, but most good high school coaches know how to do the same. It's not hard to track player highlights and make sure they get put in the right peoples hands. I know there are some coaches that don't do that, but hopefully those guys are few and far between.

Again, I'm sure there is quite a few really solid high school coaches that never played a down of college football. I really don't see that point at all.

 

That being said, has anyone heard of any solid leads as to who is going after this position. I figured this to be a big one. Isn't Madison County one of the higher paying public school spots in the state? Seems like I heard that when the Madison Southern job was open a couple of years ago.

Many of the coaches that cycled through that staff over the last several years had college playing experience. At least 2 of the coaches had coached at the 1-AA level.

 

"Marketing Athletes" is a small but important part of the broader goal for high school coaches, which is developing young men who have the character and ability to successfully move on to college or the work force whether or not they decide to continue to play the game.

Many schools would love to have 3+ seniors move on to play at the collegiate level every year.

 

You nailed it on the 'real' goals for a high school coach. They are impacting young lives, hopefully in a positive manner for the rest of their lives. The lessons they learn being part of a team will pay dividends as they grow and mature.
