I would say that U of L football may have been in better shape when Kragthorpe arrived than UK hoops when BCG got there.

Absolutely! Why the city of Louisville lets Jurich and Pitino get free passes for everything they do is beyond me. If you cross them, be prepared to pay.

It was a mistake by Barnhart, but he stayed above the fray in announcing they were moving in another direction.

Upon some reflection, maybe Krags wasn't that terrible. He was trying to clean up the program and along the way made some terrible mistakes. The teams that won alot under Petrino really overachieved and people forget how good of a coach Petrino is. It's hard to compare a guy that can make waves in the SEC to Krags, it can't be done. Krags had to totally change the program. I think U of L maybe over valued their program. U of L is not an Elite Program and never will be, same for UK. It's just not going to happen, HS football in KY is just not good enough and the athletes are not fast enough or big enough. They get the scraps from other states that the big boys overlook. U of L couldn't have possibly thought that they could remain at that level IMO, though they certainly did. Krags should have won more games, but U of L doesn't have much talent right now. They have some good players but not enough to go to the Orange Bowl or probably any bowl worth mentioning.

 

IMO teams need to learn their place in sports. Most of these Big East teams are going to be flashes in the pan when it comes to the National Picture. U of L was there, WVU is coming down from being there, and UC is there now. None of the teams in that conference are ever going to become Ohio State, USC, or a team like that. It just isn't going to happen. Those schools are stepping stone jobs, and it's a stepping stone conference. It's too hard to come from obscurity in today's game. There are no more Miami's or FSU's and if there is going to be a team like that it's not coming from the Big East. Northeast and Mid-Western talent just doesn't compare to that of the South, Texas or California. Even OSU and Michigan have to leave and when they do they get top of the line players. OSU is probably going to pull the #1 CB in America (at least in many eyes) and he's from Florida.

 

Sometimes these teams get lucky, like WVU with Devine. But, that is an extreme case. Devine had two children and just didn't have the grades for most schools.

 

The next coach is going to do one of two things. Either he is going to pull a Petrino and have success and leave for a bigger program (probably not the NFL like Petrino though) or he's going to pull a Krags and get fired. Either way the fan base will probably hate him at the end of his run. JMO, but wait and see.
