The UL job isnt what it was 5-6 years ago.

It is much more difficult to get the type of player into school now than it was a few years ago. They could take the partial qualifiers, they could take the kids that OSU couldnt get into school and so forth.

I think it is a big reason why they should hire Sumlin over Strong....for offense.

They can still get a lot of quality kids....it's not as difficult as the SEC>

I'm furious we let Kragthorpe go. The more I think about it, the more I feel he didn't fail UL, UL failed him.

 

Either way Momma....at this point it had to be done Fiscally....it would never have been able to cure itself financially.

The bottom line is that Kragthorpe went 15-21 in three years. He didn't make a bowl game. He lost 3 straight to UK and and Uconn. He lost 2 out of 3 to Syracuse. His recruiting was subpar (even for UofL standards), the team showed zero percent of improvement from year 1 to year 3. If anything it regressed every year, hence the 4-8 record this year. The team was an absolute disaster from and x's and o's persepective. If you can't admit that (which is all that really matters) then your fooling yourself. The guy won 1 Big East game each of the last two years. That's just unaccpetable.

 

As for Jurich. Who really cares. He's the boss, if he isn't satisfied with what he hired, he as the right to fire the guy. That's life people. If you fail at your job, you lose your job. No matter what the circumstances were/are, Kragthorpe was hired to mange them, and he didn't. Even if this is TJ's fault, he's not gonna fire himself for it.

 

All that being said, he may be the greatest guy ever, and really care about the kids. But he FAILED at winning games, and thats how you're measured in the coaching business.

Please explain. I'm just pointing out the obvious, in sports you're measured by your win %. Not for being a good guy. Please tell me what else matters. I'm not saying that's right, I'm just being blunt about it. There's been plenty of nice guys that lose their job because they aren't successful.

Maybe because few were ever hamstrung so badly by their boss, only for him to admit he was horribly wrong....then given less time to overcome that hurdle. Now, I differ from Rockmom in that I felt he had to be fired at this point. But, not because of lack of my confidence in his ability to turn the program around for good....but because of selfish fans, who don't understand what it takes to become a great program for years and years......and they are who pay the bills. If Kragthorpe stayed, the bills would be hard to pay.....now they won't. Does it hurt U of L in the long run? Only time will tell, but in the meantime, the U of L fanbase has embarrassed me like I never thought they could.

I saw this outmanned group of young men, become one team...a brotherhood if you will....they were severely out numbered in many games, and fought very hard....playing well for as long as their bodies could hold up...I believe that if they had a full number of upper classmen this team would've went to a bowl.

This is a great post. I think it is unreal that there are people on here posting they are upset that he was fired. His record is terrible. Look at his record compared to Kelly's at UC in the 3 years they have been there. Louisville was in much better shape 3 years ago and look at where the programs are now.

Heard one feller on one of the Ville stations said he was embarrassed by the fans. Said one fan lit a bag of dung on his front porch and another hopped a fence and took a crap in his pool. I will try to find the name of the radio host.
