Cancun Tournament "gym".

Featured Replies

I'm hearing that the facility that UK and the others will be playing in during the tournament is actually a ball room converted to a gym. It seats around 1200 and has chandeliers hanging from the ceiling over the floor. The portable court has been well used, with cracks and dips in it, and sits on the hotel carpet in the ball room. I just hope no one gets hurt on that floor. I heard some of the players weren't very happy about the conditions.

I guess this is Cancun's version of what the "The Big Dance" is really supposed to be. :D

I'm not trying to be condescending.

I don't mind the seating capacity because that's about what it is in some of Alaska and Hawaii tournaments. But this is not a gym. It's a ball room in a hotel. And floor they're playing on could be risky to injuries. Patterson said it was uneven and had wide cracks and dips in it as well as weak spots. Perfect recipe for a sprained ankle or other injury.

Guess who scheduled them in this set up?

Maybe when you're drunk walking on an uneven floor counteracts the already shaky state your body is in and makes you walk normal ?

I wonder how tall the ceiling is. With chandeliers hanging down it makes you wonder how close to the court it is and if that will be a factor.

This tournament is being held at the Moon Palace Resort. I spent my honeymoon there in the fall of 2001. It is a very nice facility, except during the week we were there, I never saw the basketball court. Should be a very nice trip for the fans if not for the players. It is all-inclusive.

All you can drink top shelf liquor, each room has a mini fridge full of beverages which the maid restocks every morning. No wonder BCG added this event to the schedule. They even have a nice golf course for when you get the urge to swing the sticks at 2:30 in the morning.

All that is quite the coincidence.

Cal even said that there was about a 3 inch gap in front of their bench, that's just unacceptable IMO. Guess it came from the old Boston Garden. Seems like they could do a better job with the floor than this. What a shame.

Maui

That scoreboard kills me!

I don't even see a scoreboard!

Some fans are going to need to be hanging from those chandeliers to get 1200 in this place!
