November 24, 200916 yr I'm going to be honest here, I have played on many college floors that look about that bad.........and a ton of HS floors. I would guess many of the players on the team have played in a lot worse gyms as well. It does seem odd for a major college basketball event though.
November 24, 200916 yr If they could put a scoreboard up they should have been able to take down the chandeliers that are over the court down. One high arching shot and there could be glass everywhere. I do have a friend down there who was headed down to the resort. It is supposed to be awesome and that the games are just part of the "all inclusive" ticket - people can come and go as they please with no specific ticket to the game. Should be interesting.
November 24, 200916 yr Wonder what the locker rooms are? Actually I think they dressed in their rooms. The court they have set up is in a ball room at the resort the teams are staying at, so they pretty much walk across the hallway and there is the court.
November 24, 200916 yr Author You'd think with Cancun being a huge resort city and the hotel and city wanting to sponsor an event like this that they would shell out few pesos to build a sports facility. It wouldn't have to be large, maybe seat what the average high school gym seats, maybe 3,000. But to play in a ball room of a hotel!!!??? Church leagues play in better and safer facilities than that.
November 24, 200916 yr I hope the Cats' players don't really like their knees, cause they're probably not going to have any after this week.

November 24, 200916 yr I'm not trying to be condescending. I don't mind the seating capacity because that's about what it is in some of Alaska and Hawaii tournaments. But this is not a gym. It's a ball room in a hotel. And floor they're playing on could be risky to injuries. Patterson said it was uneven and had wide cracks and dips in it as well as weak spots. Perfect recipe for a sprained ankle or other injury. That's what I was thinking...I hope we get out of there healthy if that's the case. Maybe we can get Michael Porter back for a couple of games to run the point in Cancun...
November 24, 200916 yr Moon Palace is about 30 mins for anything else and I too spent my honeymoon there...Almost went to this event, but backed out at last minute. Knew it was small and thought it might be a great way to meet/greet some of the players...which it looks like several fans are... Impressive is the 1200 packages sold, 1005 went to UK fans! Cleveland St sold ZERO, Yes, ZERO!
November 24, 200916 yr The team locker rooms are apparently nothing more than smaller (20x20) conference/ballrooms. There are hotel chairs lining the walls and there is an easel with tear away paper drawing board in the middle. Pretty sad that UK is playing in a tournament like this. :puke:
