Central has 42 freshmen this year, two seasons ago (Scroggins 1st season) they only had 9. And not only numbers, but some of the best freshmen in the Metro Louisville area. In year's past, those kids would have been at other schools, but with Central's back to back Football titles and Sweet 16 appearances a lot of the kids that play in what was once the Muhammad Ali Youth League now go to Central.

That is great. I love what Central and coach Scroggins has done, because I think the task is particullarly difficult at an innercity school. However, now that they are on top, maintaining will be a big challenge. Sounds like they know it and are well on their way to overcoming it.

Hopefully Holmes can do the same.

Yes, Beal...

I watched Jalen Beal play quite a bit this year and he could have started for most of the Freshman teams in this area. He is very good!

A winning program with dedicated athletes and tradition doesn't happen overnight. It comes over time with great coaching, winning, and commitment from the players, parents and administration. The kids must believe and work hard throughout the year. Coach Lickert and the Bulldog coaches are building that type of program at Holmes. With perserverance and time anything is possible.

Go Bulldogs!

Holmes has to hope that this year's success leads to that level of participation. Their freshman team this year had some talent but not many players. In fact, I believe they had to use sophomores in some games to field a freshman team. It will be interesting to see what the turnout is like for freshman ball next year.

Alluding to what another poster said ... 4A is a much tougher class, top-to-bottom, than 3A.

True.

I think the 4A district is likely to get much tougher soon...... (maybe after next season)

It will probably be:

Highlands

CovCath

Holmes

&

Possibly Pendleton Cty.

Good luck to Coach Lickert & Holmes as they continue to build the program.

Scott might get re-aligned to 4A as well as their student population has steadily been decreasing over the years. And if I'm not mistaken, it is sub-1000 as of right now but not sure on the exact number...

How are the categories for district broke out anyway.

School population?

I've seen some that say male enrollment.

Looked on KHSAA and I can't find the break out.

I don't know for sure, but I think they basically divide the schools into 6 classes of about the same number of teams. So there isn't a specific enrollment number that determines what class you are in. For example, if there are 180 schools playing football, divide by 6 and that equals 30 schools per class. The top 30 schools in male enrollment are 6A. The next 30 schools are 5A. Etc... I think they re-evaluate this every two years with some exceptions allowed. Hopefully someone who knows can link in or explain the exact rules.

Thanks!!!! Gives me a little more understanding:thumb:

Central has always had great athletes, but the coaches couldn't seem to get the best out of them. this staff has, with great results. Also,Central plays a top notch schedule early Including X and other 6As, taking the losses, but learning.

If this ends up being the case, and if teams like Boyle County, Bell County and Lexington Catholic continue to stay in 4A, then I'd have to say that 4A is going to be a very difficult class to win. Such a class would be way, way harder to do well in than 3A (where Central is right now).

Beal is very good, but I heard he was going to Holy Cross.
