November 8, 200916 yr Author UC got exposed in this one. UConn is not an offensive power by any means, and they took it to that Bearcat defense. Things would get ugly for them if they play Texas, Bama, or UF. It makes zero sense to play Pike at this point. Collaros is just a freshman and is playing every bit as good as Pike did. No sense putting Pike back in when he won't be there next season. UCONN usually scores around 24-28 points, yeah they ran the ball too much on UC I agree. If UC can't play with only Texas, Bama, UF that is still a great season. I do agree there probably better suited to face a 5-10 ranked team in a bowl game.
November 8, 200916 yr For the Big East's sake, I hope UC doesn't play a running team in the Orange Bowl....someone like CJ Spiller would run for about 250 on them.
November 8, 200916 yr Good teams don't often look as bad squeaking one out as UC did tonight...Really? Florida/Arkansas, is that an example of how a good team doesn't look that bad squeaking one out?
November 8, 200916 yr It's simple, Collaros is the better QB for Cincy. I'd go with him. Pike is good, but this team is much tougher to defend with the backup, IMO. He actually gives them a shot of moving the ball on the SEC Champ, if Texas stumbles, IMO. I saw some good things from Cincy early, in reality you are going to have games like this, it's important to win them.
November 8, 200916 yr BK was quoted as saying that the advantage for Pike is that it allows BK to use more of his offense. He said that he only has a small portion of the offense being utilized when Collaros is in.
November 8, 200916 yr Good teams don't often look as bad squeaking one out as UC did tonight... Did you see some of UF's or Bama's close calls? It happens. But a win is a win regardless.
November 8, 200916 yr Really? Florida/Arkansas, is that an example of how a good team doesn't look that bad squeaking one out? UC gave up over 100 more yards of offense to UConn than UF did to Ark. UC was outscored 35-17 in the second half. UF gave up 10 in the 1st half and 10 in the second half. My comment of them looking bad while squeaking out a win is more to do with the second half than anything. Also I think the UC's run defense got exposed and a blueprint is available to beat them if you can slow their offense (which IMO will happen when they play a team with a defense) I don't think Arkansas revealed anything about Florida other than if UF turns it over 4 times you may have a chance... So yea I think UC looked worse winning than UF did, and I think UC needs to be careful or they may drop two of their next three…
November 8, 200916 yr Did you see some of UF's or Bama's close calls? It happens. But a win is a win regardless. Close games happen, everyone knows that and there’s nothing wrong with those, but when you play so bad that it takes 711 yards of offense to beat a 4-5 team at home it's pretty bad IMO, and when that team outscores you 35-17 in the second half it's even worse. UC has a great offense, but it's being run by a freshman and who knows what to expect from a freshman. IMO if UC wants to win out and have a shot in a BCS game they better get the defense shored up...

They hit a huge touchdown, and then I thought UGA did a good job of attacking the deep part of the field for much of the early part of the game. IMO, I think that is why Bama is passing so much down the field, they know that they'll need it to beat UF. JMO.
November 8, 200916 yr BK was quoted as saying that the advantage for Pike is that it allows BK to use more of his offense. He said that he only has a small portion of the offense being utilized when Collaros is in. I'll take a small portion of my offense getting me 700+ yards...

IMO if UC wants to win out and have a shot in a BCS game they better get the defense shored up... Redshirt SOPH. 3rd year in the program. And this is the first time all season UC has allowed more than 20 points. It was the first time all season they gave up a play over 35 yards. UCONN is also only the 2nd team all season to not be held to their season low point total. UC had a very poor 4th Q on D, but it has been far from the norm...

I agree that UC's defense yesterday wasn't the norm, but I wonder if that had more to do with what UConn was doing as opposed to what UC wasn't. The next three games will tell the tell... I for one hope UC wins out and adds to the BCS mess, but they can't play another half like they did yesterday...
November 8, 200916 yr The Bearcats pull off the win and keep the winning streak alive but I don't know if they want an Alabama/Florida/Texas in January... Good luck going forward to them. I don't see any reason why they should be scared or not want a Alabama or Florida. Alabama and Florida are two teams that other top teams shouldn't be scared of this year. Both have great defenses, however their offenses can be stopped. I think a team like UC would still score on them, and it would be a close game that could go either way. I think the worst matchup for UC would be playing Texas IMO. Texas can score and play defense. Texas right now is the best team in the country IMO.

He said that he only has a small portion of the offense being utilized when Collaros is in. Thats what ive been asking... does BK want to run a pro style offense or this current system with the mobile QB. I think he can win either way obviously but a pro style offense would help with recruiting down the road.
