November 4, 200916 yr Like I said before, it is all William Henry Harrison's fault. George Washington helped start this mess, blame him!
November 4, 200916 yr George Washington helped start this mess, blame him! Washington at least tried to do something with his terms, Harrison spent most of it talking then died of pneumonia because of it.
November 4, 200916 yr I can only speak for Virginia. Everyone saw this win by McConnell coming, even the Dems. After successive Democratic governors (3 out of the last 5), 2 Dem Senators (Warner and Kaine) the historically GOP state went back to the GOP. McConnell was the Lt Governor and had beaten Deeds for it 4 years ago. Name recognition over 4 years was big for him and Deeds was unknown. Couple that with rising unemployment throughout the state (20% locally here in Southside) and it was natural for the "other guys" to take the reins for a while. Exit polls in VA still had Obama with a favorable rating and the economy here in VA is the main issue. Our state government is stripping down their budget to the bare bones and local governments are struggling to make ends meet for their constituents. It's a catch 22 in that the high unemployment keeps localities from raising any further taxes for funds that no longer come in from the State.
November 4, 200916 yr Oh, I think it's more than apparent that in some cases he has... Seems to have worked on a few people.. :lol:If he had, wise guys, wouldn't New Jersey and Virginia still be blue states?
November 4, 200916 yr At least the tea baggers lost in NY 23 The Dem won, but I believe the Tea-Baggers sent a message. A virtual unknown came out of nowhere in the last couple of months and ran as a 3rd party candidate, forcing out the Rhino Republican, who was 1 of the most liberal polictians in the state. Yes a Dem won, but the Republican Party is being sent a message, I hope that is something that can lead to many conservative victories, whether they be Democracts or Republicans next fall.
November 4, 200916 yr If he had, wise guys, wouldn't New Jersey and Virginia still be blue states?Well, we did say some and a few. And thank you for admitting we are wise. :thumb:
November 4, 200916 yr I don't see Virginia as a big deal. New Jersey, maybe. Generally a democratic state, Obama made several visits in support of Corzine and he still lost. But, I think its quite possible that we'll see a lot of one-termers with the state our country is in. In general, Americans expect fast results, and I'm not sure that's possible in our current situation. Combine that with the fact that these polticians promise results that they can't live up to. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of incumbents go down in the upcoming elections, and obviously democrats will take a bigger hit because they're in the majority. I also wonder if New Jersey's governor is related to former Chicago Bulls center Dave Corzine. Does anyone know?

I hope that they continue to move to the right. What I think this shows is that if you throw a too conservative candidate in there you will lose a seat that has been held by a Republican since the mid-1800s. The actually Republican nominee would probably have won, but once the Palin and Pawlenty group moved her out of the way, the more moderate candidate won. We are no longer a right of center country, I am tell you.
November 4, 200916 yr Why not? Republicans blamed Clinton for all of Bush's mishaps. I think George W and Obama are making Clinton look pretty good right now.
November 4, 200916 yr Well, we did say some and a few. And thank you for admitting we are wise. :thumb:Interpret it however you wish ... you do anyway. And it wouldn't be the first time you've totally misassessed my position.

November 4, 200916 yr I can only hope & pray that your party continues to think this. Did it not hold true in NY 23 and in California - I can look up the district. Also, Deeds ran away from the progressive policies that one Obama the White House - had he embraced those policies things might have been different. Just as they may have been different had Gore embraced Clinton's policies, but he too ran from them.
