If it isn't already in your present location, rain is on the way. After Friday night, most teams will have played more games on a wet field than a dry one.

 

This has been the soggiest football season I can remember. Anybody else remember any seasons that compared to this one in terms of bad weather on Fridays?

I agree. I feel like we live in Vietnam.

I remember 2003 being a wet one. So was 2005 because of Katrina.

 

1980 was a wet fall in western Kentucky.

I was talking with my wife yesterday about last year in Monroe County that our last 5 games were either raining, sleeting or snowing!!!

This year is not any better...last week was a soggy mess!!!!:ohbrother:

Honestly in NKY this has not been the rainiest. I have sat thru seasons where every Friday night it rained but it seems that this year even though it may rain that day, the games have been fairly dry. Of course that may be until this Friday.:jump:

In '05 it never got too bad over my way. I was living in London then. I do recall '03 being pretty wet, but only during the week moreso than on game nights.

2002 wasn't a bad year overall, but there was a three-week period when the leftovers of two hurricanes that hit the gulf hit KY.

 

I remember one Friday being at Fern Creek...since Insight Cable had also chosen to broadcast this game, I got stuck broadcasting from the stands (cable TV trumps radio and gets the choice - dry - seats). It poured buckets from kickoff to postgame, and we broadcast with our mixer enclosed in a watertight container, holding clipboards in one hand and umbrellas in the other. Thankfully, it wasn't windy.

 

Two weeks later, I was at Eastern HS, and the remnants of the second hurricane was going through. Eastern didn't have a phone line, so I was running my mixer through a cell phone, and the cell connection kept getting disrupted by electromagnetic interference in the atmosphere. Shortly after the game began, that interference took the form of a tornado, and I spent much of the evening in Eastern's gym!

 

More rain this year? Yes. More dramatic...no. :thumb:

2002. It rained almost every game! If it wasn't raining during the game it at least rained the night before or day of. It really hurt our speed that year. And it was really the first year the Tony Franklin offense was bieng used in High School so it hurt our entire offense as a whole.

the 1989 season was a very wet one. This 09 season reminds me of it alot. It looks like the rest of it will be the same.

If ancient memory serves me right, 1979 was a pretty wet one in Central KY. I recall four of our 10 games that season were played in wet (Wayne County) to mud boggish conditions (Harrodsburg, Mercer, Russell County). I do know it always poured for three consecutive years when we played Russell County (1978, 79, 80). Ironically their nickname is "the Lakers." :lol:

2003 is the one I recall. There was not many hard pounding rains during games, but it was at least sprinkling at game time in like 7 or 8 of the weeks or it had rained that day substantially.

Yeah, here in NKY, this will only be the 4th wet weekend of the year.

 

I think 9/29 was wet. Then the 9th, 16th, and 23rd of this month.

What makes it so bad is that a lot of these fields were not designed to drain like they are now. It just seems these fields never dry.

^ You're right as not as many football field are crowned like the used to be. I guess because a lot of fields double as soccer fields. I guess it must have been 03 when it seemed like it rained every Friday.
