I have seen both teams play, and I was more impressed with Bellevue. I think if this game is a close game Bellevue wins it, but if its a blowout or just one team dominating I think that would be Beechwood. I do think this one will be a close game though, so I will take Bellevue in this matchup.

Beechwood has had the luxury of not having a lot of players go both ways in the past. But most normal class A schools don't. I think this has been a huge advantage late in the games for them in the past. Its not normal for a class A high school to have 20 outstanding athletes like Beechwood has been coming up with for the last 20 years. What is in the water out that way? I'm sure being the excellent coaching staff that they are Beechwood coaches have made sure that these players are ready for the extra work.

 

If you believe this you truly have not paid much attention to Beechwood football. Most of the seniors from last years team played both ways. Maneillo, Slusher, Miller and Teipel all played both ways. These are just a few who did.

 

Elliott played both ways most of his senior year. He did miss some defensive time with a foot injury during the season though. Most of the better players are on both sides of the ball.

I never said either was under or overrated. I pray for rain so that Bellevue continues their winning ways in the slop. I think Bellevue prevails either way, but with a bit more breathing room in the rain.

 

Do people think the Beechwood players have never played in the mud. These kids play at Mills Rd and Boone Co Pee Wee complex. These are both grass/ dirt fields. I am sure there are other fields in the pee wee systems that they have played on. They played Dayton and Ludlow last year in the slopping conditions. This is nothing new for these boys.

In conclusion if one brother went to BW why didn't the other? If the academics were so good that one brother had to go there then why not the younger?

Beechwood usually has at least 6 or 7 guys playing both ways. Some years it may even be more. They will work breaks in for guys so they aren't on the field non stop. Last year, Maniello, Miller, Slusher, Teipel, Larimore and Downton all played both ways the majority of the time. Then you also had Rigdon and Schultz who went both ways but just played some of the time on defense. That is 8 guys right there. Colosimo had injury issues but when healthy he played both ways also. In a small school you just don't have the luxury of all your guys playing one way.

Cody Elliott was a tuition student from Boone Co's district. Maybe Travis did not want to follow in his footsteps. Being at Ryle, there is no question that he is in a good academic school and a good football program. I have several friends and family members where the older sibling went to a private school, but the younger ones just wanted to go to the puplic school.

Travis did not want to follow in Cody's footsteps. He wanted to be him and not the little brother, not that he is little by any means.

 

I compliment the coaching staff and the players desire to out work everyone else on becoming better. There are players on the freshman team that are 7 th and 8 th graders. They play school ball because they would not get much time on the pee wee teams. They work hard and get better every practice.

 

The freshman team has lost 2 games thus far. They lost in the last seconds to New Cath and lost to a very good and undefeated Cooper team. If I have it right, they have only 8-9 freshman on this team.

No doubt their has been some outstanding two way starters at Beechwood over the years. I was actually trying to give them a compliment about how many outstanding athletes they have had over the years. How this got off track I don't know. With that being said BW has been blessed with enough good players that they have been able to have less two way starters than most Class A High Schools. This is not a Bad thing. It would be nice if year in and year out Bellevue was blessed with these kind of numbers.

OK OK OK. Now that the rain gods have come thru for the Bellevue Tigers, Lets just wait and see if the Bw Tigers can play in the slop. I just hope tonight that I see a great matchup btw these to great small A schools. No matter what the out come is , There is a pretty good chance they will see each other again in a few weeks in the playoffs.:
