I'm interested in seeing how the CCH rotation works out. They seem to have a bunch of good pitchers but not a dominant pitcher. I'd guess there are 6 kids in the running for the rotation.

Shumate, Gerwe, Klein, Warning, Maile, Arnzen, Hellman, and Schlegbaum.

May not have pitched much during the high school season, but has pitched during the summer, especially this past summer. Decent velocity, real nice curve, good control, good pitching mentality. Certainly not an Isler-type shutdown pitcher - there aren't too many of those types out there anyways - but he'll keep CCH in any of the games he pitches.

Agree, and he has 5 pitches and mixes very well. When you can mix and locate pitches you don't need a flaming fastball.

Not to mention that he is just a great kid and competitor to boot.

i know for a fact that larimore is not suspended for 6 months so that little birdie that is being talked about is completely wrong. so that should sum up that conversation.

I was impressed with him as a freshman. Its just odd that he hasn't pitched much for the Colonels.

Shumate and Arnzen pitched for the Kentucky Colonels' 16 year old team last summer. The Colonels' 16 year old team had a very good season last summer (even by Colonels' standards), and had a very good pitching rotation (featuring several Northern Kentuckians who you should hear a lot from this high school baseball season). That pitching staff performed well for the Colonels in some very prestigous national tournaments. Arnzen will again play for them this year and Shumate will play for the Kentucky Colonels' 18 year old team. I know the Colonels are very high on both of them, particularily Shumate, who has really increased his velocity (although he was already throwing hard last high school season), and who has developed a very good curveball.

Warning should have been ahead of shumate last year but never got the chance to prove hes better.

Love Warning as a pitcher but Shumate will be either the number 1 or two behind Gerwe, then Warning.

 

BTW Chris Gerwe doesn't have to worry about getting an athletic scholarship. The young man was a Governor Scholar, so he goes where he wants to go, on a Academic Scholarship. Congratulation Chirs!

 

A lot of folks forget that Mattie Klein was 5-0 his sophomore year from the mound but IMO he will be the CovCath starting catcher this season, and if you catch you don't pitch for Krumps!

 

CovCath will not have as Coop said a dominate pitcher like Isler, heck a HS pitcher like Isler only comes around only so often, but this team will be deeper on the bump and as thus will be able to throw many more arms at the opposition this season.
