Dusty Baker's job may not be safe in Cincinnati, writes Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune. Owner Bob Castellini "reportedly has his eye on the Cardinals tandem of manager Tony La Russa and pitching coach Dave Duncan." Both men could go elsewhere if they so choose. La Russa's contract expires at the end of the year and Duncan holds an option on a deal he signed around this time last year.

I wouldn't complain. Not that managers make much compared to your payroll, but I'd be willing to bet you get them cheaper as a package deal.

He's not the only one. This would be kind of like how I felt when I heard UofL was courting and would eventually hire Rick Pitino.

The reason Jockety left St. Louis was because La Russa. They had to choose one or the other.

 

I can't see Tony leaving Pujols and Carp, two guys he is adores, to come to Cincy. Maybe if the Cards would have won the WS this year but after that NLDS I cant see him leaving.

 

Like La Russa or not, there is not another manager in the game that gets more out of players then he does.

If Marty can work with "Ol Leather Pants" he can make it work with LaRussa. Would love to see them (Duncan-LaRussa) in a Reds uniform in 2010!

In 07 Jockety was banging heads with much of the Cardinal front office and TLR. Same reason for the Rolen being traded. Him and La Russa didn't get a long. The front office does whatever it can to keep TLR happy. What way do you see it?
