10th Region Cats Pause Preview

This is the one, only and last thing I will say about this, because I feel very little need to defend my OPINION. First off, where I am from has no bearing on my prediction. I work in a profession where you have to be (and I pride myself on being) unbias, and this is no different. Secondly, as to state rankings (that in the grand scheme of things, mean very little) vs. where they will finish at the end of the season -- i.e. regional tournament -- I will quote directly from the article:

And even while the Cardinals may get more preseason pub and likely higher statewide rankings, the prediction here is that in a one-on-one matchup come late March, the Royals will succeed in making their third consecutive trip to Rupp Arena.

And finally,

Thank you sir. Anyone care for a breath mint?

I'm sorry, but the term homer comes to mind when looking at the ranking. Clark Co. has a lot more talent. They are well-coached (as is Mason Co.) and have a substantial size advantage. I just can't see objectively ranking Mason higher right now.

Mason Co lost Russ a good scorer from last years team, Downing played solid D and Hamm was a spark off the bench. They bring back T. Black who is going to have a break out year IMO. Also, look for Gilbert and J Lang to be a good backcourt. Manship and B Lang in the frontcourt.

I said King instead of Downing. My bad. They also lost Brawner (spelling?). Hes a very talented player and in the 3 or 4 games I watched last year he played very well for Mason Co. Also, Hamm was a great shooter to look out for as well.

I think we heard all of this last year. :puke:

Seems like everyone said this last year too. :irked:

Setty and Pawsat along with T. Black are going to be hard to stop. Zollo I really wasn't impressed with last year. I would take Setty and Pawsat who works 110% when he is on the court over him. I will say that Stenzel is probley the best player in the region.

Downing was a good D player but with the guys they have coming back they will be okay. They got Manship who moved in and Barner moved out. Hamm was a solid D player and hit some shots and was a spark off the bench but Mason Co has other guys off last years team to fill these holes. :thumb:

This isn't last year. IMO you can take Zollo and Rogers and put them up against Setty and Pawsat and they are pretty even. Stenzel is much better than any perimeter player Mason has. Then you throw in Purvis and Daniels. I just don't see how they could be ranked ahead of Clark Co. Anything can happen on a given night. The thing is last year Mason Co. had the best player in Middleton. I believe this year Clark Co. has the best player in Stenzel, which you agree. I'd have to put them 1st.

If you think so, but we shall see, most people didn't think Mason Co could win the region last year and I think we know what happened. They beat the heavily favored GRC in the finals. :thumb:

I didn't really see Clark Co. has heavily favored going into the regional tournament. Heck, Clark Co. beat Mason on what I heard was a bad call that put Stenzel on the FT line to win the game.

Everyone has opinions. My opinion is that these are two very good teams that the determining factor could come down to "home court advantage" and that is tough. I am a big supporter of ALL regionals being held on neutral courts so that the BEST team wins! If home court does not matter why did the NCAA rule a few years ago that teams cannot play regional games on their home court thus UK has to go somewhere else in 2013.

Last two years no home court advantage. :thumb:

The 10th region championship is simply up for grabs from two teams...Mason & GRC.

The only argument Mason Co. has to being #1 IMO is based on what they did in the past. The lost King, Middleton, and Brawner (the transfer they had that went back to Lex). Those were 3 of their top 6. Clark Co. on the other hand only lost 2 players that played and got Purvis back who is a very good player. I will say the one issue I see with Clark Co. is depth in the backcourt, but I can't see them not being the favorite. They have Zollo, Purvis, Rogers, Stenzel, and Daniels. Thats 5 that are exceptionally good.

:thumb:Well said. Also the addition of Chase Kendred will only make the Cards stronger along with getting Purvis back.

I am glad you posted this...I think it ironic that you felt you needed to print a statement defending your choice in the Cat Pause. Uhmmmm.

Along with all the injuries. I felt before the game we wouldn't win. I am telling you Purvis will make a HUGE difference this year.

Can anyone post the top teams and top players? I haven't been able to pick one up yet.
