9th Region Preseason Coaches Poll

Featured Replies

You do realize that the state tournament has been around for 90yrs + and the 9th region has only two teams that have won the championship.

No one can predict the future with 100% certainty, but you honestly think some possible team in the future will have a chance of doing what Holmes has a chance of doing this year? Talk about elementary thinking!

Key word is "chance".

The class of 2011 won a Freshman Championship and a JV Championship and the class of 2012 won a Freshman Championship? Boone's team will be better in the 2011 season than this year's team.

I think they will be good but not quite as good, but we will see. Gabbard, Earls, and Popp all played JV and varsity most of the year as freshmen and strictly varsity as sophomores. The 2011 and 2012 classes will not have as much depth either, IMO. I would like to see Boone get on a streak of winning seasons and win a regional championship again.

Do you think that could be because the players ahead of your trio were not as strong as the players ahead of the 2011 and 2012 boys? I don't have a dog in this fight, but it does seem like the track record so far supports his opinion.

The only point I'm making is that Earls never played freshman or JV ball, and Popp and Gabbard also played up on JV as freshmen and played very little freshman ball with their own class. So, you can't really gauge how good a class is by the freshman and JV championships while they were at the school. The JV team did finish 2nd in NKY when Popp and Gabbard played on that team as freshmen. The 2010 class at Boone has not really ever played entirely as one at Boone. That class is probably a little deeper overall. They could have about 9 players on the squad this year.

Boone did win the JV tournament last year. However, I believe they had some kids in the 2010 class that were a significant part of that too: Thamann, Krickmer, etc. Without Thamann hitting about 5-6 threes in the JV championship game, Boone would not have won by 3 points.

I think there could only be about 5-6 players on boone in the 2011 class (Oppenheimer, Crabtree, Montgomery, Fookes, Brown, Burgess). The 2012 class has Downs, McQueary, and maybe about 3 others, depending on who makes the team this year).

The 2010 and 2011 class together are a pretty good combination, just as 2009/2010 was, and 2011/2012 will be. I don't know yet whether the 2009 or 2011 class is stronger. 2009 did have McFarland who went on to get a scholarship at Georgetown. Montomgery probably has the best chance to play at a school like that or better from the 2011 class. Crabtree has the height.

Boone is picked to finish 2nd in the 9th region again this year behind one of the 9ths best teams ever. Do you think Boone will win the region in 2011?

You think that Ryle or Conner will beat Boone out in the districts?

Boone would have to completely self destruct not to make it out of districts this year.

I agree.

2011 is getting a little ahead, but if I had to predict I would say that Ryle and Conner would be the front runners.

Agree. I was trying to make the point that Boone's 2010 class is probably stronger than 2011 overall.

You mean like in 2008 .....self destruct ?

Whose doing the voting???:idunno:

How could Boone be rated higher than Highlands?:madman:

Boone lost Mcfarland their best player Spaulding a very good athlete and who was very under-rated and Brown who was their MVP during the regionals. I just don't see them replacing those three players ESPECIALLY their experience.

Highlands lost Nothing- NOTHING from last years squad!!! Did you see what those kids done in AAU this past Spring/Summer?

Flynn has worked those boys harder the last 3-4 months than Willie did in 3 years.

Not to mention the emergence of 6-6 junior "Jump'in" Jack Stewart. You will be surprised at how much this kid has improved. Scouting services were buzzing about this kid at the 17U AAU Nationals this past summer and how well he was playing against kids a year older.

Maybe not a bunch of flashy athletes but this team has something you can't measure on paper and thats teamwork and chemistry.

Clearly, a very serious threat to the Bulldogs. Holmes is the only team that is better. Take the Bluebirds in an upset at the 2010 Regional finals.:ylsuper:
