September 20, 200917 yr Did you really just compare that presser to the Gundy presser? This was a great press conference, I can't tell you how happy I am to see some emotion from Krags.
September 20, 200917 yr If I was a UL fan, I would love what I heard from this press conference. I LOVE how he defended Trent Guy. That kid made so many positive plays that you can't let one negative play color what a playmaker he is and how hard he played.I don't. Now don't get me wrong, it would not be appropriate to lay blame on Guy, but Krags approach and the manner he went about it assigns no accountability to the error Guy made. Guy played a major part in making the game close but he also played a major role in the loss. Guy is a leader on this team and mistakes happen but he is accountable for what he did and further errors in a similar manner can't be accepted if we want to get better. Trying to gloss over that major error to help his self esteem really doesn't help this team progress.

September 20, 200917 yr Coach Kragthorpe is in the foxhole right now and seems to have the right attitude that he and his U of L team have a fighting chance for a winning season if they come together as a team under adverse conditions. The team has a lot of scrap, but I feel they greatly need the U of L fan base to be 100% behind them to help carry them to victory in their home games at Papa John Stadium. I see them as a possible best case .500 club this season if they can win those winnable home games. Their road schedule is a beast. I am afraid the division in the program created by the anti-Kragthorpe sentiment will create an apathetic atmosphere in Papa Johns in those winnable home games. Lots of negativity in Louisville right now.

Lots of negativity in Louisville right now. I agree with everything you said. :thumb: I'm absolutely disgusted with a lot of the UL fanbase right now. :irked: If we win, it's not good enough. If we play better than expected against a team projected to blow us out of the water, there's nothing to be positive about. To be honest, some people seem to want Coach Kragthorpe gone no matter what. I think that would be a monstrous mistake. If they think things are bad, imagine what another coaching change would bring. Kragthorpe's hire is an investment in the future. The dividends will be paid out in due time. I'll be happy to replace one of those apathetic or antagonistic fans if they'll donate their season ticket to me.

You want Coach Kragthorpe to call out one single player on one play in a press conference?! And that being the player who played spectacularly the rest of the game?! Trent Guy now knows his coach has his back. I think that's far more valuable, and productive, than shaming him in public. It's not just self-esteem! It's the concept of "Team", of which both Coach Kragthorpe AND Trent Guy are a part of!

Recall Now don't get me wrong, it would not be appropriate to lay blame on Guy Perhaps I should have included "in the press conference" to insure clarity, but I didn't say what your suggesting. I feel a much better response is something to the effect that would be "It was a damaging mistake by a leader on this team, we understand that these types of mistakes can be the difference from winning and losing, but we have faith in his ability learn from it and for him to continue to lead our team to future wins". I don't think there is anything wrong with assigning players accountability, I think it develops responsibility and when done correctly does not have to be damaging at all. To say "If you even talk about this I'll come to your house" is just silly and shades over the reality of the situation. I don't mind Kragthorpe accepting responsibility for his errors, but it makes no sense for him to refuse to acknowledge player mistakes.
September 21, 200917 yr Author Did you really just compare that presser to the Gundy presser? This was a great press conference, I can't tell you how happy I am to see some emotion from Krags. I said Mike Gundy Light...was being facetious. He was chippy...dismissed the one questioner... If UL fans are happy then that is good for the Ville.
September 21, 200917 yr I am a UK fan, but after watching the game, I say its wise to hang on to Kragthorpe. I don't believe some people realize that Petrino left as much of a mess in Louisville, as he did that one "loaded" team. A house cleaning was needed, it was done, and this is the rebirth of a new Louisville team. U of L will win some games this year, and Krag is doing it the right way. Just give it time....
September 21, 200917 yr I'm no UL fan but this reminds me of UK v UL a few years ago when it was 31-24 in favor of UL. We were supposed to get killed if I remember but played well and felt good with our team's effort. Last year was 27-2 UK at Louisville. This year we barely win AT HOME and UL, I think, should stay behind their man. We did. It worked out pretty well. I think UL is on the right track.
September 22, 200917 yr Coach........I do not mind the 4th down option call, but I would change two things: 1. I would tell Justin Burke to not pitch it from behind the left guard position. To be effective, the quarterback must at least present a threat to run the football before pitching. 2. I would not call that play into the boundary. There is just not enough space to effective run the play. I know UK fans used to get upset when Andre Woodson would be called upon to run the option, but I have always liked the play in a short yardage situation even with a non-running type quarterback. Tim Couch option to the boundry used to make me cringe!
September 22, 200917 yr Tim Couch option to the boundry used to make me cringe!I could see that, and I'm not a huge fan of Burke running it, but he is markedly more athletic, running the ball, than Couch was.
