Knew it would happen soon, but it's always hard to prepare and deal with these kinds of situations.

This is a horrible, horrible cancer. My heart is broken over this loss. I pray for his family and friends to get through this time.

Pancreatic cancer is an absolutely brutal cancer. It is basically a death sentence. My dad was diagnosed in January 2008 and passed away from it in April 2008. It is extremely rare to live even two years after the diagnosis and 5 years is essentially unheard of. You can only survive it if it's contained within the pancreas, as it can be removed entirely. The problem is that symptoms don't present themselves until it has already spread outside the pancreas, usually to the liver, and at that point it's considered Stage IV and incurable. And make no mistake about it, it's a very grim and painful disease at the end. Swayze handled it with class and composure. I'll always remember his interview with Barbara Walters - the epitome of class.

It has been a bad year for deaths in Hollywood, everyone knew this was coming though, very tough to see him in the shape he was in, great actor and seemed to be a real person.

RIP Patrick - you were a class act, family man and will be missed greatly.

Awful news. Lost a good one today...he was an all around good person class act and a rarity in Hollywood.

Dalton: I want you to be nice.. until it's time..to not be nice

Bouncer: So, uh, how are we supposed to know when that is?

Dalton: You won't..I'll let you know...You are the bouncers I am the Cooler; All you have to do is watch my back and each others....and take out the trash!

That is my take on him also. I can't remember an instance where he embarrassed himself with his actions.

My grandfather died from it as well. It happened just like you said, started in pancreas and spread to his liver before they caught. He was a different person everytime I saw him.

He was a great actor and an even better person. Hollywood loses another star. His personality will be greatly missed.

The year of Celebrity Deaths:

Bea Arthur

Ed McMahon

Farrah Fawcett

Michael Jackson

Billy Mays

Walter Cornkite

Ted Kennedy

DJ AM

I really wasn't a fan of ANY of his movies.....but I respect the fact that he never really became a Hollywood star with a big ego.

May he rest in peace, and I pray that his family can find peace in this very tough time.

Later.
