September 11, 200917 yr I don't think so. Robinson's was retired for his off the field accomplishment, ending segregated baseball. As good as #23 was, he's not 100% thought of as the greatest of all time, so where would the line be drawn?
September 11, 200917 yr I agree it should be up to the team but it shouldn't be retired from the NBA as a whole.
September 11, 200917 yr I wouldn't have a problem if they retired MJ's number. He's is easily the greatest.
September 11, 200917 yr I think #23 should be removed from all mathbooks, textbooks, and school chalkboards. We should skip it in the number line. No person is worthy of reading or writing or even saying Michael Jordan's #. We should replace the #23 with * when we count.
September 11, 200917 yr I wouldn't have a problem if they retired MJ's number. He's is easily the greatest. Gretzky is by far the greatest hockey player but the greatest hoops player is debatable.
September 12, 200917 yr No. I don't think any sport should retire any number. The teams can do it. That's enough. :thumb:
September 12, 200917 yr Author Gretzky is by far the greatest hockey player but the greatest hoops player is debatable. I am sure that many people believe it is debatable on paper, but I truly don't believe it is debatable. I believe that MJ is the undisputed best player to ever play the game of basketball (probably because I grew up in his era, but I will stick to that statement). Besides, with the young studs in the NHL right now, who knows, the may pass Gretzky in many catergories.
September 12, 200917 yr Author "Limits are like fears...they're just allusions" "There is no I in team...but there is in WIN"
September 12, 200917 yr As most people said, the only # that should be retires is Jackie Robinson. No one player is bigger than any game, except maybe him.

Besides, with the young studs in the NHL right now, who knows, the may pass Gretzky in many catergories. Just like some of today's players might pass Jordan? :sssh: I don't see Jordan deserving of having his number retired by the league. He was without a doubt the best player of his generation. If you lived in that era its easy to think the best player from that era is the best ever--that doesn't mean it is true. Sure Jordan might have been able to do things athletically that his predecessors couldn't. But athletes continue to evolve and improve. The players in 10 years might be able to do things that were beyond even Jordan's ability. Besides, what did he do on the court that hasn't been accomplished before? He's not got the most titles, he doesn't have the scoring record etc. Jordan was the best player I've ever seen but I don't think that makes him worthy of an entire league retiring his jersey.
September 12, 200917 yr I say yes. Jordan is the G.O.A.T... Ahh, after 36 hours of seeing this, I just realized what this means- Greatest Of All Time.
September 12, 200917 yr Ahh, after 36 hours of seeing this, I just realized what this means- Greatest Of All Time. Hang in there, brother.
September 13, 200917 yr Only the Chicago Bulls should retire the #23. Why should anyother team be forced to. He was the greatest player of his time. Should we retire Jerry West, Wilt C., Kareem, Russell, Bird, Magic J, ect... No No No. Leave it to the Teams they played for to decide.
