Obama to address nations school children

Featured Replies

Are you saying that was Bush's fault?

I'm saying some were against Bush prior to Sept. 11. After that, most people were in favor of Bush. Then as the wars drug on, many began to turn back against him.

Point being, making a snap judgment of a president is very tricky. Some things that look good don't always pan out. Some things that look bad can end up being positive. But either way, eight months is a short period.

I'm pretty anti-Obama when it comes to the bailouts and health care, but I applaud this idea. Most politicians could care less about school kids who aren't old enough to vote. If he really just encourages kids to do their best and stay in school, I'm impressed. If he sneaks in other ideas that attempt to influence political ideas - that would be a big mistake.

I am a teacher and was handed this propoganda this morning.

You let your true feelings known right here with one word.

Too bad all teachers aren't like you! :ylsuper:

Unlike those of us that are wasting our time trying to reach the ones that have parents that don't care about them.

I can't stand Obama.

I wish he would have never been elected President and hope he loses the next election.

I think he will continue the policy of allowing unborn babies to be killed in this country.

And I think it is a GREAT thing he is doing speaking to the children in this country.

I would be, as I made clear. :thumb:

I hated Bush and I wouldn't think twice about letting him address the children of our nation. If we as a nation aren't comfortable with letting the man who we elected President to address our children then there is something very wrong and goes to show how much political parties have torn this country apart in the worst kind of way.

I agree wholeheartedly with this post.

Except I would replace "hated" with "disliked intensely".

Terrorized? Fear? I love it, question or speak out about your dislike about something Obama does and the labels fly.   Living in constant fear! That's rich!

Terrified, not terrorized. Sometimes we see what we want to see.:D

This may have come up already, as I haven't read every word of every thread.

It occurs to me that those who are terrified of the thought of the President addressing our school children (it must be tough living in constant fear) might want to consider enrolling their children in schools that do not receive federal funds, and all those nasty strings that are attached.

People aren't just living in fear anymore, it's become many a persons best political tool. See Rush Limbaugh.

I seem to recall something about those color-coded "terror alerts"...

I think anyone who is concerned or worried is just being crazy.

What if Obama comes on TV and tells kids they have an chance to be the President if they study and work hard and do the best they can. Eat your veggies and brush your teeth. Do the right thing and obey your parents. It's your job to make the most of your education.

No we wouldn't want kids to hear this type of stuff.

It's a shame folks won't give this man a chance. Yes he is making a lot of people mad because he is trying to tackle difficult situations. At least he has the courage to try to take on things like health care. Last President spent 8 years looking for weapons of mass destruction.

Can't stand him. Hope he is not re-elected in 2012. Has been a total disappointment in his time as President. And I think he's going to continue to let unborn childen be murdered, as ladiesbballcoach said. Do I think he has other things he should and could be concentrating on? Yes. Does it make me upset he is doing this? Nope. Do I think the kids care? Not one bit lol. This is 30 minutes free of lecture from the teacher.

My district's response:

Dear Colleagues,

You may or may not know that the President of the United States has planned a presidential address to students to air on Tuesday, September the 8th. Believe it or not, there has been a lot of controversy surrounding this and many public school systems are being forced to make decisions regarding whether or not it will be viewed in the school setting.

Our stance is that curriculum and instruction are to come first. We will not air the address live on Tuesday to all of our students in every classroom. It is to be recorded by the media specialist at each school. If a teacher, upon pre-viewing the speech, feels that it addresses the content of their classroom, they may show it to their classes for instructional purposes. The teacher needs to document it as part of their lesson plans, noting the content and standards of the curriculum that it is accommodating.

Should you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me. Thanks and have a great 3 day weekend.

To me, that is just unbelievable. I am so disappointed. If he was declaring war every TV in every school would be on and listening. But 30 minutes from the President to admonish students to do well. . . the people in the wrong here on this issue are those complaining.

Terrified, not terrorized. Sometimes we see what we want to see.:D
Terrified, terrorized, who cares. It's all ridiculous really.
